Question about Cameras

2 Answers

Hi there. I've just bought a remote shutter/controller JJC JR Series Infrared Controller, for my Panasonic DMC FZ50,but it doesn't work at all. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if is the gadget that is faulty. I don't know if the light on top of the receiver should be on,because is always off(no light); I don't know if I have to program something in the camera before connecting the device; I don't understand why even if I do everything as the instructions say, nothing happens. Could You please help me out? Thank You kindly.

    Hi there.

Thank You for Your reply but, unfortunately, wasn't the right solution.

I always keep the time saver on,so it can't be that.
I've also checked the camera's manual to see if there could be another cause, but I couldn't find anything else.

    So,here we are again.

    The thing,to me,seems totally dead.
I mean, the red light on the transmitter works only when it's not connected to the camera.
As I connect the cable, the light is off.
And the light on top of the receiver is never on..no light at all there.

Problem is I've done everything by the book,as far as I know, but nothing's working.
The batteries are in place, with the right polar in the right places.
The cable is connected in the right way.
    The camera is working fine.

    So,let's think to something else,please.
I really need to find a solution fast, because a job I have to do and if I have to send the stuff back in Germany,it will take ages before I'll have it back.

Waiting for Your help, thank You much.

Well,I'm quite sure it IS compatible.
My camera is a PANASONIC DMC-FZ50 and,as You can see if You click on the links, they say it's compatible.

    http://cms.kreativfotografi.se/attachmen...

and also here, which is the home of the people who sold me the item

    http://www.enjoyyourcamera.com/advanced_...

And THIS is what they said to me today :

    Hallo,
please try the following steps before returning it:

    1) Please check if the batteries are properly inserrted.
    2) Please attach the receiver to the hot shoe and then connect it to the switched off camera.

Now,like I said,I would like to solve the problem without send it back, because maybe it'snot faulty at all,but how do I know which is the case?
Is it faulty or there is something I do wrong?

    Please,try to find the solution.

    Thank You.

Sure I've tried and the light stills off even if I connect the cable directly from the remote to the camera.
Actually, when I connect it directly, even the light of the remote doesn't work.

At the end of the day,I think it's faulty, even if I cannot be totally sure.

This is the big downside of buying via net.
You can't have a real expert opinion if something is wrong.
If you buy from a shop, there's a real person there and he can see and try.
Here,it's very difficult to understand what the problem is.

    I don't know what to do,now.

If You think You can help me,good.
Otherwise I'll send the item back, hoping that the next one will work.

    Thank You.

Yes,I think is the only way.
Thanks for trying, but it wasn't meant to be.
    Take care.

Hi,

With this camera you need to activate the power save mode or the remote will not operate.

To activate it do the following

1) Press menu set and then press the left arrow on the navigation thumbpad

2) Use the Down arrow to navigate to the Setup Menu (Spanner/Wrench Icon) then press the right arrow

3) Navigate to Power Save with the Up/Down arrows

3) Select it and then select 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes, Confirm selection by pressing right arrow.

4) Powersave is now activated. Exit menu by pressing menu set

Note: When a time is set for power save, the camera automatically turns off if you do not operate it within the set time.

Try your remote shutter and see if it operates now.

If this resolves the issue please remember to leave a vote for the solution. If you continue to have problems let me know and I will be happy to respond.

It certainly is possible that the device itself is faulty. However I am also wondering is there a compatibility issue.

I note that only the JR-D version is compatible with the Panasonic. Have you double checked this is the correct version?

    Hi,

The IR receiver should light up when the remote is pressed but you say it is not doing this.

Have you tried connecting the remote directly to the camera via the cord? This will eliminate the IR receiver. Let me know if the remote works when connected via the cord. If not try swapping the batteries in the two units and try again.

If the remote still does not operate the camera when directly connected by the cord then the remote is faulty.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

If the unit cannot be operated with the cord directly connected to the camera then the controller is faulty and will need to be returned.

Unfortunately as you say this is one of the disadvantages of buying across the net but either way in this particular case the controller is faulty and will need to be exchanged.

There is one complication with IR remotes. You have to point the remote directly at the transmitter's sensor to make it work. It is normal for the LED on the transmitter to remain off. It will turn on only when it senses an incoming IR signal. Also verify that you have installed t correctly and locked it in position. Refer to page 120 of the manual below to cross check. Its actually for a wired remote shutter but the procedure should be same. Only difference being there is that it will have a IR receiver instead of a wire.

If you have done everything correctly and still cannot get it to work, then I would agree with the others that shutter controller is faulty.

Hope this helps,
Sai.

How to use the JJC TM Remote with Nikon D7100? After setting the camera exposure to Manuel, the shutter speed to BLURB, the intervaltimer OFF, the focus to M...and setting JJC TM remote to take 5 pictures...

When you switch the camera to the remote control logo on the main dial, the camera expects a infra red remote control. I don't think when you use a wired remote, it should be in that setting.
Try one thing at a time. First try to release the shutter with the push button on your JJC, when the camera is in the normal setting S (single shot) Be aware if you select Bulb, the shutter stays open as long as you press the button. If the your camera reacts when pressing the JJC, then do your settings on the JJC for the more complex things you want. Still I think what your JJC can, the camera can do too without JJC. But not sure of everything you have in you'd head.

Does nikon D5000 work with infrared

If you're asking about an infrared remote control then yes. It will work with the ML-L3 remote or equivalent. You will have to set the shooting mode to one of the two remote modes to do so.

If you're asking about taking infrared pictures then not so well. The camera has an infrared filter that masks out most infrared light from reaching the sensor. There are companies such as LifePixel which will remove the infrared filter to convert your camera into an infrared camera.

Please turn camera off and then on again. it

Had the same issue with my DMC-FZ50 for a couple weeks, and tried turning it onn and off countless times. I could hear something happening inside the lens on start-up and surmised the internal shutter was trying to open but wasn't able to. I guessed that the turn off/turn on idea was to resend the command impulse to open the shutter. So.... I t urned it on while repeatedly hitting the side of the lens firmly with the palm of my hand and.....it worked!!!!
