Dryer runs ok. igniter glows and lights flame. Flame burns for about 30 seconds and goes out. After a while it does it again. Minimal drying being done.

Matag Legacy gas dryer sometimes it will not heat. Doesn't sound like it's trying to burn. So am guessing it's something to do with getting the signal to light the burner.

I have a gas dryer that the igniter plug glows, but does not light the gas. One time when I had the front panel off the gas ignited and the dryer heated, but only burned for a minute then shut off. Now I...

with front off it will short cycle. If ignitor glows and then goes out without lighting, you have bad burner coils. The 2 black round things on burner assembly. Unplug unit then unplug coils and remove bracket with 2 screws. install coils and test.

Maytag gas dryer will heat for about one minute

The gas coils on the gas valve have gone bad. These are located on the gas valve and will be 2 solenoids. Replace them both and should be able to get as a set. 12001349 should be the number and cost less than 60.00 for the set. Good luck and thank you for using Fix Ya.

Gas will not ignite. glow stick not coming on

Hello there:
Problem -
No flame, or no igniter glowing at all,
the most common thing to check is ) -
Inspect igniter for small burnt spot on dark gray or black part of igniter or check for 110 volts to igniter when dryer should be calling for heat.

ThanFirst check and see if you have 110 volts coming to the gas valve at this type of a connector. If you have voltage, then unplug the dryer and check the parts I have pointed to. Some dryers have 3 coils instead of the 2 shown here. If you do not have voltage coming to the burner, then you will need to check the timer contacts that feed the gas burner, hi limit thermostat, operating thermostats, the safety switch on the motor, and any other point that you can see on your wiring diagram picture that feeds voltage to the burner. The coils on the gas valve are very bad for working once or twice and then quitting. If you find a open circuit on one of the gas coils, replace them all = less problems later on. If the glow coil does not work ( get red ), check it with a ohm meter for continuity. The next thing to check if the glow coil does not come on would be the radiant sensor. Inspect the igniter for small burnt spot on dark gray or black part of igniter or check for 110 volts to igniter wire plug when dryer should be calling for heat. Sometimes the ( older style ) igniter is separate from the holder and the holder can no longer hold the igniter tight enough and the two parts burn/arc where they touch each other = new igniter and holder ( some manufactures have new kits to replace these older style parts ).

Ok hope this is very helpful for you>
Best regards Michael

Dryer will not heat

On the maytag gas dryer there can be a couple of problems.
1) there is a safty switch on the modor start switch that has to close befor the gas can come on.
2) There are safty coiles on top of the gas valve. Sometimes one of these may be burnt out. You have to check the resistance of each coil.
3) There is a light sencor on top of the burner funnel( a little black box with two wires comming out of it.) This can malfunction some times.
Not always an easy solution. Lots to check.

Maytag Gas Dryer doesn't heat up

The igniter is the part that ignites the gas in the Maytag gas dryer. Long time a go the dryers use to have a pilots. The pilots where on all the time, even when the dryer was not been use.

This wasted a lot of gas and a new design was needed. That is when the igniter or glow bar as is also known, came to be. A bad igniter could be the reason for your Maytag gas dryer not heating.

The radiant sensor is a small black box that attaches to the combustion funnel. The job of the radiant sensor is to allow the igniter to glow until it is real hot, then it shuts the igniter off and opens the gas valve to start the heating process. A bad radiant sensor could the the reason for your Maytag gas dryer not heating.

The gas valve has two coils or solenoids. These coils job is to open the gas chambers inside of the gas valve.

When one of the coils goes bad, the symptom is that the igniter glows, but the gas valve won't open to let the gas flow through the gas chamber to be ignited.

A bad set of coils could be the reason for your Maytag gas dryer not heating.

The hi-limit thermostat is located on top of the combustion funnel, and its job is to open the circuit to the gas valve if the airflow to the dryer is restricted for any reason.

The cycling thermostat is use to control the temperature inside of the dryer. It is factory preset at 155 degree, in other words it will open the circuit to the gas valve when the temperature reaches 155 degrees.

This thermostat is opening and closing all the time the dryer running. A bad cycling thermostat could be the reason for your Maytag gas dryer not heating.

The timer is the part that direct the electricity to the other parts in the dryer. This part works very hard and the contacts wear out and some times they burn out. If the timer contacts won't close, the dryer will not heat.

The motor switch is another safety device that only closes the heating circuit when the motor is running. When the motor is not running the circuit of the gas valve is open and the dryer will not heat. A bad motor switch could be the cause for your Maytag gas dryer not heating.

As you could see, there are a lot of parts inside of the dryer that have to be in good working condition for the dryer to produce heat.
