when i think of routers to passwords come to mind:
the administrative username and password
the wireless name (SSID) and wireless password
if you don't know the admin stuff you will need to set the router to factory defaults before you can do anything. its easy use something to push the reset button for 12 seconds. login by going to routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1 and enter the default admin stuff "admin" and "password".
now to change the admin password (so other people can't mess with your router) go to the admin tab.
to re-setup your wireless go to the wireless tab
If yuor first laptop is able to connect then try installing SIW on it and click the PASSWORDS link to see if it will retrieve the wireless password off the first laptop. If not, and you cannot get into the router either, you will need to reset the netgear to factory by depressing the reset button in the back for 10 seconds, which resets the login to 'admin' and the password to 'password' to allow access to the router, and setting the wireless security to NONE - allowing you to change it to something you can remember.
If you are able to get into the router, but simply cannot remember the wireless password, you can reset it to something else without resetting the router through the wireless security menu in the router. You will need to then set both laptops to use the new password.
1.there is no way to find your password for the router you either know it or have it written down. 2. you will have to reset the router with the reset button and start over using the setup wizard using the installation CD. 3. Then you will have to re-install the user files to reset your password or user name.
If you have lost the password to access the router page then you have to reset the router
Ensure that you have all the details regarding your internet connection before resetting the router
If you reset the router you can run the smart setup wizard and get connected by entering correct information in all the pages of the wizard
If you are looking for the wireless password: -------------------------------------------------------------- Access your router page ( Open Internet Explorer --> Type 192.168.1.1 and enter it--> Login name(default)-admin, Password(default)-password) --> GO to wireless settings, under Wireless settings you will find the wireless password.
You have to take a pen and hit the reset button, and hold in on it for about thirty seconds to minute. Be sure to re-secure your wireless internet after that, so your neighbors can't use it, by using a personal password. It is located under basic wireless setup on the router page. 192.168.1.100 is the default after the reset of linksys been pressed.
