Slides won't stay down

Hello. I have a carousel 600 and the slides go down and flash an image for a second but won't stay down so we can see the picture. The slide is popped right back up again. Is there a way to fix this?

Chances are that due to the age of the projector, the failure is caused by a problem with the cycle contacts. These contacts are located on the camstack of the slide change mechanism. This is a repair that can be made easily by a factory-trained dealer.

Kodak 140 slide carousel trays jam

The 140 tray with older slides and an older projector is a gamble with slide jams every time!! Slides have a natural curve that gets bigger over time. In addition, as slides age, the corners will begin to de-laminate (aka: "dog-eared" slide). Because the slide slot in a 140-tray is SO NARROW, the least little deformation of the slide from normal will cause the slides not to drop. My recommendation, given the age of the projector, trays and slides, is to get rid of those 140 trays and stick with 80-slide trays. Good Luck !! Jim

I have slides back from the 1960s will they work in a Kodak Carousel slide projector

As long as they are in mounts that are 2 inches square, they will work. Given the age of the slides, chances are that they are not perfectly flat any more - - so I would choose a Kodak 80 Slide Tray (as opposed to their 140 Slide Tray. The individual slide compartments in a 80 Slide Tray are wider and will be more forgiving if your slides are slightly warped.
If you need to buy a slide tray, contact Vine Valley Imaging (www.vinevalleyimaging.com). Good Luck! Jim

Why doesn't the slides advance?

I can only guess, but it is most likely caused by a worn or mis-adjusted cycle contact. I have attached an illustration to show you the proper orientation of the cycle contact. Good Luck !! Jim7390f9e7-725d-4085-9769-5537112e57b1.jpg

My Kodak Carousel 650H has a stuck slide and the tray won't move. The stuck slide is lined up with the "gate index." I tried releasing the tray but only one side of the tray releases. The...

Two steps.
1) Look down into the center of the carousel. There should be a round, flat silver knob with an elongated notch in it. Take a coin (US 5-cent piece or similar) and use it to turn the knob. This releases the catch on the metal plate under the projector. You should then be able to lift the carousel off. Be careful: some slides will fall out as the slot is not aligned with the carousel body properly once you do this.
2) Make sure the locking ring on top of the carousel is in place (or else take out all your slides. Turn the carousel over and gently rotate the metal plate covering the bottom of the carousel into position. You will hear/feel a "click" when it's in place.

The projector may have jammed because there are two slides stuck in the viewing slot--check for this before you put the carousel back on the projector. If it jams a lot the metal plate under the carousel may be bent.

The lever that drops the slides gets stuck in the 'up' position when the carousel is on the projector but it works fine when there is no carousel attached. When it gets stuck you have to take the carousel...

If you are using a 140 tray with older slides, that's very logical! Over time, slides develop a "side-to-side curve". Because the Carousel 140 tray stretches the design limits of the projector to be able to accurately return the slide to the tray, the slightest bend or "dog-ear"(the fraying of the corner of the slide) will cause exactly the problem you're having. If you have a Kodak 80-Slide tray, try it. Chances are that it will work fine. If it does work fine, then you have 2 options: 1. Move all your slides into Carousel 80 Trays.
2. Have your slides re-mounted (that is, have the paper mounts replaced).
I hope this helps !!

First of all, remove the tray (use the emergency tray removal in the center hub of the projector). BE CAREFUL not to spill your slides, so before you remove the tray, make sure the tray ring is in position & tight, then when you remove the tray turn it upside down immediately and move the tray plate to the "zero" position. Remove any slides that might be in the gate of the projector. Turn the projector on and cycle the projector 2 or 3 times in Reverse. This should clear a tray/slide jam. Good Luck !!

We actually have a kodak 600 carousel projector that will not advance the slides. there is a white "arm" that doesn't move right. Is there a small screw that should be attached?

Given the age of your Carousel Slide Projector, my guess is there is a broken "link" in the slide change mechanism. This "link" is plastic, and connects the cycle solenoid to the slide change mechanism. Over time, the "link" gets brittle & breaks, giving the failure condition you describe. You should consult an Authorized Repair Dealer to see if they can still get parts for your projector, which was built between 1964 and 1972. Best of luck !!

Yes!! The projector is equipped with a "dark shutter", which means light is only allowed to exit the projector when a slide is in the gate. That eliminates the "white screen strain" on your eyes when no slide is present. Happy New Year!

The problem is caused by a mis-adjusted clutch contact. This adjustment requires some dis-assembly, so unless you have service manuals for the Carousel 600, I would recommend you find a factory-trained repair dealer.
