You can download an upgrade to 2.2 (is that the version you want), by entering "/" into your search engine.

On the menu on the left you will see "designer updates", click on this and the options available will appear.

I need a replacement for my floppy drive.

Check with some long time Husqvarna Dealers and see if anyone has upgraded any Designer 1's from floppy drive to USB. I have kept all of the used drives that I removed from upgraded machines and I sell them as used at a reduced price.New drives are available to authorized repair centers. They will cost quite a bit.You can also have your machine updated to USB.My recommendation is to find a used drive.

I am saving design files to my 3.5 disks in the shv format, but my Designer I isn't recognizing the design.

I have been having the same problem. After talking with a HV person this weekend, I was told that I must have my designs converted with the disk manager in Professional System 5 software for my Designer 1 to be able to read it. The software was included with my machine when I purchased it, and I am now waiting on my old computer to be loaded with Windows 98, since the software only works on Windows 95 or 98. Hope this helps & good luck.

My husband upgraded my cmputer but forgot to take the dongle off. Can I get a new one?

What did he do with the old computer? Can you get the dongle back? It would be useless for anyone else - you cannot even format them to use as regular USB sticks - and they are virtually irreplaceable. The replacement cost is the same as purchasing the software, I'm afraid. Either get new software or a new husband LOL! A cheaper alternative than the Husqvarna software is Embird. It's not my first choice personally, but is 1/10th the cost of the HV program and there's NO DONGLE!

Can't find dongle for 4d embroidery. what do I do now?

If I wasn't writing this on Christmas Day, I would say "Ask for new software for Christmas". Seriously, the proper reply is Keep Looking! If you have registered your software you MIGHT be able to purchase a replacement dongle, but I would not hold out much hope for that. Contact your HV dealer and ask. Mostly, the value of the software is in the dongle and if it is lost then the replacement cost is the cost of the software i.e. lots!. Check your household insurance policy - you might be covered for the cost of the replacement. There are other embroidery software programs that work with the Designer1 machines e.g. Embird and Sew What and these are less than $200 which is way better than $2000.

I cannot open any of my designs because I get a message "dongle not attached". I want to transfer my new designs from a cd to a floppy to use in my Designer I. This is very frustrating and I do not have...

I am assuming you have some sort of Husqvarna software which is now malfunctioning - is this correct? It must be Customizing or maybe 3D or the one that was between these two (can't remember what it was called) because dongles for 4D would still be available. I have three suggestions for you.
Firstly, look on eBay and other online places where used sewing software is sold - because this software is fairly old now, you might be able to pick up another copy of the same one you use. Just be sure that you get the registration number as well as the dongle. You won't be able to register the software with HV, but will need the number to install it.
Secondly, look for older and cheap used software from other sewing machine manufacturers (Brother, Janome etc). Just check first to see if it will convert designs to .shv and put them on a floppy disk that your machine will recognise.
My other suggestion and probably the best one is to consider purchasing some third party software which is a lot cheaper than the HV programs, such as Sew What or Embird. The basic Embird which will let you load designs for your Des.1 and also has some pretty cool editing tools is a little over $100. Not sure on the price of Sew What but a Google search should turn it up for you.

I need to find the stitch count on a Viking Designer 1 SSE - HVAB made in Swden Type P 10 72 309781 App No. Q 96287

Did a tutorial software come with it? If not, you need to contact a HV dealer near you. These machines come with excellent service.

I have a Quilt Designer II that is not sewing properly. I am told that the "timing" is off but cannot find out how to fix it. I do not want to send it away. I have looked for a manual to get instructions...

Setting the "timing" is something that should be done only by an authorized husqvarna viking dealer. Many dealers have inhouse service technicians certified by HV. I would look for such a store in your area. You can find the nearest dealer by click on the "Dealer" link at
Good luck.

Can i tell when a viking designer 1 was made by the serial number? recently put one on layaway and would like to know when it was made. serial number is 52003189

I really don't know the answer to that. Have you tried to Google for an answer? There are some tell-tale markings on the models that will help to narrow it down. For instance mine is one of the earlier models and has "Designer 1" written directly below the screen. Later models moved that wording up above the screen. Later still models had "ESS" added. I would need to look at my HV magazines to track down when these changes occurred, so write back with a description of where your decals are. If your machine is on layaway with a HV dealer, they should be able to give you a ball park estimate of its age. Phone and ask them - if they can't/won't tell you, ask them to describe to you where the decals are (I'm guessing you would not have made a note of this before the machine was put aside for you).
