Try downloading the file on an alternate computer or laptop and burn to disc or flashdrive. Problem may be vendor related or local PC but you must isolate the problem.

For the past week, when my Sceptre LCD monitor goes to sleep after inactivity, it won't restart immediately. The blue LED blinks every second or so; eventually, the screen begins to flash the display, and...

Hello there Jake.

Here's your geek-steer ...

== CLARIFICATION ==
  • When you say "sleep", are you certain it's sleep mode, as opposed to hibernate?
  • "...it won't restart immediately." ... you do mean of course AFTER you've given keyboard or mouse input, right?
  • "...the screen begins to flash the display" ... literally flash, as in strobe? Or do you just mean flash, as in "shows".
  • "...Sometimes the whole process takes five minutes, sometimes an hour." ... ???!!! If it takes anything longer than few/several moments, that's very abnormal, even if hibernate mode.
  • "...I can't find the documentation." ... not important, at least not at this point.
== SUGGESTIONS ==

A. RULE OUT THE SIMPLE FIRST.

1. Shutdown
2. Turn off PC and monitor
3. wait 5 minutes
4. unplug all cables/cords connected to monitor (both ends)
5. inspect/clean connect points
6. reconnect all cables/cords
7. plug monitor back in
8. startup system
9. try to duplicate problem

B. CPU HOG.

I'm curious to know what all your "Processes" are doing during this very delayed period of time. By knowing that, you can see which one(s) are running, and which of them are probably crunching hard at the CPU, which MAY explain the delay (I don't know about an hour, but minutes ... yes).

Do you have a "Processes" monitor utility of any kind? If not, get SysInternals' "Process Explorer" (no installation required, just unpack and launch). Make sure at least the "CPU History" item is included in the column header (View > Select Columns). Once launched, allow it to sleep.

Just as soon as able, after it comes out of sleep, review Process Explorer. What, if any, processes are hogging CPU? Post that back, and I suspect we may be a lot closer to a solution.

C. MONITOR FAILURE.

You might also hook up this monitor to a "known good" (functioning properly) PC with like "screen saver" and "power options" settings. If problem not encountered, you can at least isolate the problem to solely the monitor. However, if the only time you encounter problem with monitor is isolated to when coming out of sleep, this is likely a long-shot.

Good luck Jake, and please do post back ...

  • to provide clarification or feedback.

Viewsonic Projector PJ557D "Screen Flip"

Check the power settings o nthe laptop, go to control panel, power options. see if its set to turn off the screen if theres no activity. I doubt this is your problem but worth a try. Going back to the viewsonic picture means its not getting a signal. So either the cable may be faulty which is less likely, or it is a software problem. Does the screen flicker on the laptop when doing the same thing (if the projector is not connected)?
