Hi,
If your Sony KDF-60XS955 shuts down and turns on itself again then it is symptom of weak lamp that is causing problem.
Replace lamp in tv and all will be OK.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and would be mentioned in user manual. Click Sony Support to download user manual copy, if needed, check page-16
Required lamp part number is as follows..
A1085447A... LAMP BLOCK ASSY XL-2200U
and available in Sony Accessories Store for $200
Hope this info will solve your tv problem.
Thanks.

I would recommend Sony original lamp for tv safety as price is bit high but tv will remain safe for next few years.

Less price/ alternate lamp is not same as Sony original lamp.
Ballast lamp produce heat while producing light so my point of view is less price lamp might produce more heat that can damage light engine internal parts on long run.
Saving few $$ is good thing but should not be on tv cost.
    Thanks.

Sony grand wega randomly shuts off for about 15-30 seconds every 10 minutes. Fairly annoying

No lights?? Are all fans running properly? Check for dust buildup and clean out. Dust can slow down the fans enough to shut it down. Sounds like a cooling issue.

KDF-60XS955 shuts off intermittingly and red light flashes 5 times.

My KDF 60XS955 turned on and off like the above complaints. I had an appointment with a Sony Repair specialist but thought that since my bulb was getting really old and taking too long to warm up, I would change it before he came and tried to sell me one at retail cost. I then noticed that the set didn't turn off any more. I ran it that way for a week and then decided to put the old bulb back in and see what happened. Within 1/2 hour it had turned off twice so I changed it back and said that fixed it. I cancelled the sony tech and saved some money. I hope this works for some of you also.
