Question about Linksys NSS6000

2 Answers

Had to reboot NSS6000 Wednesday morning and since then haven't been able to access because our 2 shares have disappeared. I called Cisco support on Thursday morning and walked me through several steps to no avail. The tech said they had a tech that knows the NSS6000 but won't be in until Monday. I can't wait that long and hoping you all can help. Here's what they had me do: Windows Explorer: \\dmsnassrv1\storage Displays 2 folders: Administrator & Storage Storage > ftp_dir & RAIDA RAIDA > DMSNASSRV1 > (emply) The tech person had no other suggestions other that having the other tech call me Monday. HELP!!

    Yes

Yes I can get to the admin panel via our local IP address: 192.168.111.7

Everything looks fine within the admin panel, the Volume is there, the Raid-5 array indicates "good" and utilization on the status panel has 71%. However, when I go to the Shares > Shares panel it has "No Shares Defined" and we've always had 2 share entries there.

Your NSS6000 was probably configured with an encrypted volume. The encrypted volume needs to be unlocked before the shares is visible to user(s). You need to go to menu: Storage => Volume and unlock the encrypted volume with the password. With correct password, it 'll unlocked the volume and user(s) can access shares or administrator can see from the NSS 's GUI. Without the correct password, you would NEVER able to unlock the volume.

Encrypted Volume designed to protect from theft or stolen. So when the unit power if OFF, then turned ON, only the administrator / owner of that NSS with the secret password can unlock the volume and allows shares to be use.

You may also:

Try to access the NSS via \\NSS\storage and log in with the admin user and password. please let us know if you are able to see all the shares.
this is assuming that your volumes are mounted and RAID is running with no issues.

I think your best bet would be to set up the serial console as described in my post. You don’t need to change any software settings to boot in single-user mode as root. You should then be able to mount the filesystem(s) with your data (if they are un-damaged) and (for example) FTP the data to another system. But you will have to get some local help to to get that done.

I hope this helps, from here this is the best I can do to help. Let me know if this helps you.

Thank you for the chance help.

Disable network password

do you get any error messages? open cmd from another computer and ping the pc in question (assuming this pc gets an ip). if "ping" works then try net view \\computer name or ip. you should be able to see the shares or get an access denied usually 5.
Try that and let me know what you got so that i might understand the root of the problem.

My Cisco IP Phone 7945G keeps rebooting after I did a factory reset. Is there a way to fix this?

According to Cisco, when initiating a factory reset procedure certain information from the IP phone is erased while other information is reset to the factory default value, as shown in the list below:

Information Erased:
  • CTL File (Certificate Trust List)
  • LSC File (Locally Significant Certificate)
  • IP Phone Call History (Calls Received, Placed, Missed etc)
  • Phone application
Information Reset to Default:
  • User configuration settings (ring tone, screen brightness, sound levels etc)
  • Network configuration settings

t is highly advisable to follow the firmware upgrade procedure in a non-working environment to ensure other phones are not affected (in case of an accidental reboot), and to avoid the freshly factory reset ip phones obtaining the working environment's settings.

Please use the link below and follow the instruction http://www.firewall.cx/downloads/cisco-tools-a-applications/cisco-ip-phone-a-ata-firmware-downloads.html

Why is Cisco router not giving internet access to guests

I'll venture a guess that some file sharing or such activities are going on, using up the three guest IPs. I'd suggest upping the number of guest access in the router to something like 10, then taking it down from there. Perhaps don't broadcast SSID if you want to ensure someone is leeching your internet bandwidth, and share the name (SSID) only with your friends/guests.

I use yahoo mail, and when I was checking my e-mails this morning I realized that all my previous e-mails in my inbox has gone. I haven't done any adjustment or delete them by accident

unfortunately this happens from time to time, you need to contact yahoo support but they will only look for emails that have disappeared within the last 2 days. they've lost my emails covering a 4 year period!! use a mail program like thunderbird to download the emails to your pc - note: only the inbox is downloaded

3. blank.gifPress and hold the MODE button while you reconnect power to the access point.

4. blank.gifContinue pressing the MODE button until the Ethernet LED turns amber. (approximately 2 to 3 seconds). Then release the button.

5. blank.gifAfter the access point reboots, you must reconfigure it using the web browser interface, the Telnet interface, or the access point console port.
Using the Web Browser Interface

Follow these steps to delete the current configuration and return all access point settings to factory defaults using the web browser interface:

1. blank.gifOpen your Internet browser. You must use Microsoft Explorer (version 5.x or later) or Netscape Navigator (version 4.x or later).

How to reconfigure back to factory settings

The router should have a reset button accessible by way of a small hole and labeled "reset". Unplug power from the router for 30 seconds, and while holding the reset, plug the power back in. This should default, clearing any passwords etc. Important to Note: Lights should blink on the router, be careful not to interrupt power until the router has completed the reboot process. A power interruption may turn it into a brick.

If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!
