Question about Polaris New Genuine Polaris Snowmobile Accessories / X Treme Sidecut / Out of Bound

I have a 2000 XC600 deluxe that I bought a couple of months ago. I think I have jetting problems. I am looking for carb specs for this sled and I am not having any luck finding them. The sled is a dog on bottom end but goes like stink when it hits about 6500 RPM and everything else seems to be O.K. The main jets are 172 jet needle is at 5 jet needle is R13716 pilot jet is 38 air screw is at 1 turn. Any ideas. I live in Sudbury 200 miles north of Toronto. Steve

I have tried two sets of new plugs and no difference but I haven't tried the plugs you suggested. It really doesn't feel like a plug problem. I have gone through both clutches and have the carbs apart right now. It is almost like it's too rich on bottom end but over 50 mph it runs perfect it is very hard to ride trails like this. If you come up a ditch and stop before you at the top it can't pull it's self over the snow bank. I have to back down and take another run at it. Steve

The sled is so lazy that if I stop half way up a snow bank and try to go it won;t go . I have to back down and take a run at it. I have gone through the clutches and they are fine.

I suspect jetting problems because I have been riding sleds for many years and have adjusted air screws on other sleds in until they were too rich and out until they were too lean and never encountered a sled this lazy off the line. Even a 250 can beat it. I have the chain case apart right now waiting for a reverse gear but when it is back together I will install the champion RN57YCC plugs and lean out the air screws half a turn and see what it does. My local Polaris dealer says it will be about a week to get the gear. I will let you know how things work out. Steve

Now that the carbs are apart on the bench I would like to check all the jet and needle specs so I don't have to go there again. Could you give me all the latest updated settings for my carbs. The sled comes with 39mm Kehin carbs. While I am in there I also pulled the reeds out to take a good look at them and they are fine also. Steve

Yes I realize that. I came on here looking for carb specs because I think I may have too small a main jet and that is why my E clip setting is at 5 or the bottom groove. I didn't want to move it to the 3 setting without making sure it has the proper main jet cause leaning it out too much on top end will take a piston out and I have done things like that in the past I didn't want to go there again. Could you give mr the latest up to date settings for my sled. It has 39mm Kehin carbs on it. Steve

Hi steve, sounds like someone has been there before you,i dont know this model in detail, but it looks like it is running to rich in the bottom end, general rule of thumb is that the needle clip should be about half way,so if there are 5 positions put the clip at number 2,the general rule of thumb for the air screw should be about 1.5 turns out from fully seated, this will lean out the mixture in the bottom end a wee bit and it should give a better throttle response, also check the condition of the air filters,a good clean filter can make a big difference,,,hope this helps...cheers

I'll give you a quick crash course in carbs. Idle to 1/4 throttle is controlled by the mixture screw. 1/4 to 3/4 is controlled by the needle jet, and 3/4 to full throttle is controlled by the main jet. I would move the clip on the needle to the third groove from the top and retry. It sounds like playing with the needle setting will fix your problem.

The first thing I would do is switch out the plugs with the champion RN57YCC. These sleds have been known to have power issues with different pluggs> Have tried these plugs myself with great results.

Well now I know that it is deffinetly in the carbs but if it was a jet problem giving the sled to much gas then you should be able to adjust the air to compensate for the fuel. I would try adjusting the air before rejetting the carbs give it more air then it won't foul out at low r's.

Yea I would deffinetly like to know the outcome after the plug replacement and the carb adjustments I appreciate it good luck.

Yamaha 650 v star tps,.. how do i find it on a 2004...then how do I test it to see if its the problem??

I would still think this is a carb issue. Most techs stink at properly rebuilding carbs because there are so many different kinds.

I however have spent 15 years honing my carb skills to perfection.

If the bike was purchased from a person at a higher altitude, main jet size might be incorrect. Or if it has modifications to the exhaust or intake - also main jet.

Contaminated or old fuel could also be a factor - have you drained the tank?

The TPS has to be set and checked with an olm meter. The TPS controls the CDI second timing curve which may have failed. I have seen this many times!

Eng runs with choke stalls at idle with choke off after a couple of minutes

Jets are clogged. When the choke is on you cut the air and the mixture is good, with it off to much air. Dont know the carb you have but the low rpm jet is clogged. should clean the whole carb. Gas will gum up in 6 months if not treated with some stableizer.

Chances are there is a water build up in the carb float bowls. The water comes from condensation in the gas tank. Try draining the carbs. Another possibility is carburetor main jets partially plugged up. You must clean the carbs if plugged jets are found to be the problem. Please rate my answer. Thanks. tombones49_152.gif

Yes. Sounds like main jets are blocked. Gas will start to varnish after a couple of months. This builds up over time and sticks the main jets. Go to this website and select discuss this bike.http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/yamaha_yzf-r6_2000.php

Carb ploblem

sounds like you have a new style holley carb it is the only one thats fits that discription (s&s used to have one also, but discontinued it years ago.) you might try adjusting the accelerator pump so it squirts less gas in the engine apon accerellating that is the biggest culprit when you see carbon(black soot) in the carb you said you think it is jetting did you buy the bike used? if so ask the old owner what jets were installed and does he have any other jets if you can.

Bike will not start

I would take the carb off and clean the jets. I had a bike that if i didnt ad stabil to it, the gas would varnish in just about a month. It also depends on what kind of gas you put in there and if you fill the tank up so condensation doesnt get in there.
