Question re: installation of turntable motor

Hi. Have a GE microwave model #JVM1640WB007. Turntable quit, bought new motor, installed it. Everythink OK EXCEPT--I can't remember which way the wires attach. Does it matter? I don't want to do it wrong and ruin the motor. So, can you tell me, with the motor screwed into place, does the orange wire attach to the left or right terminal? Please help--I am hungry and can't heat up my soup 'til I get it fixed! :-)
Thanks so much--Les

If its an AC motor, the wiring will not matter. Look at the numbers on the motor. You will see a voltage rating, RPM rating and if you see the text "50/60 Hz" it is an AC motor and the wiring will not matter.

If its a DC motor, you will see a voltage rating, RPM rating and a + & - for the wiring. If you reverse the wiring, the turntable will turn in the opposite direction.

I'm not sure about all microwave ovens, but the ones I have worked on, the turntable turns in the clockwise direction.

Most likely, its an AC motor. Look for the "50/60" text. If its an AC motor, the wiring will not matter.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you,

Good luck!

The turntable doesn't turn. Will using the microwave until I can replace the motor harm anything?

If the turntable platform has wheels sometimes they accumulated grease or other material that gums them up. This will cause the turntable to lurch and/or jump during rotation.
Remove the platform and soak it in hot soapy water taking care to clean each wheel.
Rinse, dry and re-install the platform.

GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 microwave turntable

The turntable system consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours is not set to be off via the control panel, and it won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

On some, you have to cut the motor cover off with snips, then use a screw when reassembling it.

Microwave quit

Hi there,

Well first of all you can try to clean the turntable- Remove your glass turntable cooking tray from your microwave. Gently wash with warm soapy water to remove any debris. Next remove the turntable guide and clean it in the same manner, with warm soapy water. Pay particular attention to the turntable rollers. There could be spilled food particles caught in the rollers, hindering the rollers' movement. Also, gently cleanse the internal cavity of your microwave, paying special attention to the area below the turntable. With the internal cavity, turntable, and turntable guide completely clean and dry, return the parts to your microwave. First place the turntable guide on the bottom of the microwave. There should be a circular groove in the bottom of the microwave cavity keeping the turntable guide in place. Follow the guide with the turntable cooking tray. Carefully place the glass tray over the turntable guide and onto the drive bushing. The drive bushing should fit neatly into the grooves on the bottom of your glass cooking tray. It may take some adjusting before the tray will sit properly onto the drive bushing. If further you have the same problem then this could be a failing turntable motor...... Please post comments for further help or information.......

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Microwave turntable motor or belt?

I assume you don't have an illustrated parts list try and Google one up using make and model number etc. It is also a good guide on what needt to be removed and in what sequence.

As far as the novice part, the turntable is a basket case now what can you hurt, this is how we all learned, try to fix it if you cant then call someone who can, not a big deal.

If you didn't buy the turntable motor then I assume you purchased the coupler ( white plastic/nylon piece that fits into the turntable motor collar and rotates the platen? Is that what you purchased?

GE turntable microwave Je1540WW 002 Turntable doesn't turn

I have had the turn table motor go defective in microwave ovens.

Normaly, before ordering a new motor, I always checked to make sure that there was power going to the motor assembly. I never had a power drive failure to a motor so-far. When they did not spin, the motor was defective. But, one day there will be a first time for me.

The fix was to purchase a new motor from the manufacture and install it. In some cases, I had to also replace the spindle key because the original broke when trying to remove it when removing the motor assembly.

I suggest that for servicing a microwave oven, you give it out to a service center to have the work done. There are safety issues when working on microwave ovens.
