Question about Apple AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n and AirTunes

3g internet + wifi Airport express + Vista = problem

I am using Vista and get internet connection to the computer through my iPhone via usb. I also have an airport express that has created a wifi network. I would like to stay connected to my 3g iPhone network and at the same time connect to the Airport express wifi network (to be able to stream music). The problem is that when connecting to the wifi network the internet connection drops. Somehow the two networks interfer with each other. On my mac the same setup works perfect. I have tried to change order of preference and moving the 3g to the top. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Just to clarify the setup: Internet is provided to Vista computer via iPhone (usb). However, the Airport express (AE) network is not supposed to be connected to the Internet. So there should not be any problems with multiple Inernet connections. I just want to access the AE network to be able to stream music. So what I am trying to do is to be connected to a local network (iPhone+usb) and a wireless (Airport Express) at the same time. It works perfect on my mac (Internet connection stays connected when I also connect to the Airport network), so there must be a solution for Vista as well.

How can I tell the computer to stay connected to the Internet via local network (usb+iPhone) while accessing the wifi network (Airport) to be able to stream music?

    Thanks!

The network connections that you're trying to setup. The two sources of the Internet will Interfere with each other. Microsoft Windows does not allow two different connections at the same time.

The iPhone serves as the modem and it's getting connection through your wireless provider. And you're trying to connect your Vista via the Airport Express and it will definitely interfere with each other. Because the 3G connection and your Airport Express have different sets of IP address.

You mentioned that on your Mac, the same setup works, right? There's a possibility that Mac has the ability to disable one connection when you try connecting with another network.

The only suggestion that I could give you is to get the IP range of your iPhone 3G and then set a static IP address of your Airport with the same range as the iPhone. I'm not sure if this will work but try it and see if they will communicate with each other.

Good luck and have a great day!

I had the same problem, and I had to switch from Windows Vista, to either Windows XP or Windows 7. Clients of mine had the same issue and they also had to do the same thing.

I have gateway model SX 2110 G does it have wifi if so how do I connect to internet

This Gateway desktop does not have a wireless (WiFi) adapter.
You can check out the specs on this WEB site.

SETTING UP A BROADBAND CONNECTION
First you need to decide what type of broadband and Internet service you require and these are -
1. DSL that uses your existing telephone line.
2. Cable that uses a cable service and can include a cable TV service.
3. A USB wireless adapter uses the same 3G mobile/cell phone network and can be separately or combine with your cell phone account. This type of Internet connection uses a wireless device shaped like an USB memory stick.
Note - Combined services generally offer discount pricing and may include a modem/wireless router.

If you use a wireless router with a DSL or Cable Internet service then your laptop/computer with a wireless card can then connect to the Internet. You can also connect to a free WiFi hot spots like McDonalds, Star Bucks, the Airport etc. using the wireless card in your laptop.
If you use the wireless 3G wireless broadband service, then you can access the Internet anywhere where your ISP has 3G wireless coverage. You need to check the service coverage area where you need Internet service.
Once you decide what type of broadband your require, then you need to check with the various Internet Service providers to see if they can offer and the cost of the various plans.
Note the download limits and the associated additional costs if you exceed the monthly download limits. Once you sign up with a Internet Service provider, their documentation will include setting up instructions and/or installation CD.

Not able to connect to internet via airport express

Have you checked your system preferences, network settings? You have to tell the mac to use airport or ethernet. It may be setup to use the hard wire and not airport. You should see a link to turn on airport in the upper right corner of your screen. I think you can turn airport on there.

When connected to Airport Express via USB, it will

Airport Express provides only a print server, not a networked usb hub so it can only print. I'm afraid you'll have to go back to wired for scanning.

Internet on iphone 3g??

Simply go to Settings > Wifi. If Wifi is off, turn it on. You'll see a list of available networks when you're in a hotspot. You can also have iphone tell you when you're near hotspots by turning on "Ask to Join Networks." You won't be able to use the internet when you're not in a wifi hotspot.
