I've been working on this for two days I have built around 15 to 20 machines for my self and for others.

I have done what you suggest already long before posting here the machine will boot, but with a black screen. I have put in the latest bios and also ATI software will not install on a machine without seeing an ATI card insalled the installer will just shut down.

You must enter the bios menu and set the video controller to boot to the PCIe first. Save and exit the bios. The proper orders when installing a PCI-E card is as follows; before you install you’re new video card onto the motherboard. Install the graphics cards software. Than shut down the system. Install the video card. Boot system and enter the bios menu. Go to and open Advance.
Open North Bridge Configuration
See page 4-23 in manual.

Internal Graphics Adapter should be set to [PEG/PCI]
Internal Graphics Mode Select should be set to [Disabled]
PEG Port Control set to [Auto]

Save you're changes and exit the bios. You should be able to boot to you're PCI-E graphics card now.

Cheers'

Remove the ATI PCI-E graphics card from the system.

Clear the bios by moving the cmos jumper to clear and remove the cmos battery as well. Wait a minute and set the cmos jumper back to normal. Re-install the cmos battery. See if you can enter the Award bios menu with display. If you do not have display with the default settings than there is a problem with the MBs

graphics controller. If you do receive display but not with the ATI card installed than the problem is modt likley the ATI card.

If you are having problems with your video card

the drivers might not be installed correctly you might have to uninstall the graphics card restart your computer then reinstall the graphics card and its drivers

If your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it

Click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to display adapters + to expand you might see a yellow question mark ? or exclamation mark ! or a red x right click select reinstall drivers or

you might need to download one

Do you have the installation software for the ATI Radeon X300 or know where to get it?

Hello,

Updates and drivers are always available to your video card's manufacturer.

ATI is now owned by AMD.

Visit AMD's site and select your component by Category which is Graphics.

Hi Brisas,
The Gigabyte video card uses ATI's chips (heart of the card). It shouldn't matter that you install a newer driver for the Radeon X300 series video card. It is backwards compatible.
In other words it still will run with Win98SE.
Latest X300 series video driver, click on the link.
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp

If you realy think you need a driver for Win98SE than download a older version for the radeon card. The link below is very old & may still run you're X300 SE video card. Click on the link. (Take you're pick of old radeon drivers).

Good luck!

I won two ati sapphire x1950pro graphics cards but don`t know if my system can deal with them.

Man Great win you have some kick-A$$ cards but I am sorry to say your current MB does not support crossfire video cards. But if this a store bought system from Packard Bell you should have a Name: ATI Radeon X300 (RV370 SE) that your computer came with. Just to tell you one of these bad boys will put the Name: ATI Radeon X300 (RV370 SE) to shame if this is what you have in your system.
