If the LCD screen is not physically broken ie a cracked screen then it could have a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp which will give you a black screen. The inverter and CCFL lamp is a lot cheaper to replace than a complete new LCD screen.

Need to replace screen

You can find a replacement screen here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-17-3-LCD-LED-Screen-Display-Panels-HP-G7-1257DX-G7-1279DX-DV7-4272US-/230836308279?pt=US_Laptop_Screens_LCD_Panels&hash=item35beea8937

and a video on how to replace it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA5E-sMEV8A

Good luck, also no guarantee's from the ebay seller, I have no association with them and no idea if they are legitimate.

Thanks,
Liam.

Hi, I have hp pavilion dv2500 laptop. I have display problem.pls help how to rectify it. If i connect exteranl CRT monitor Display is coming . Pls tell me how to disassemble the laptop.

You might have either a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp.

In this service manual, you will find an illustration of how to disassemble the laptop & replace either the LCD cable or screen inverter board:

If the screen can not hold when you open the laptop, you need to change LCD display hinge. You can buy from here.

Reboot hp laptop dv9730us without recovery disc. Need to do this because I cannot access my wireless connection anymore. It always says it cannot connect. i tried it with other laptops and it always...

You can restore your computer to the Factory State without the disk, provided you still have the recovery partition created by HP. Restart your machine, and tap F11 until you reach the Startup Repair. Cancel the AutoDetect and go to the list. You'll find an option that relates to restoring your PC to Factory state. Remember, you'll lose all data doing so. Let me know if you need more help

You are not alone with this problem. Some lines (like mine) run vertically rather than horizontally. The solution - sue HP. These screens have a known fault ie the Nvidia graphics chip is known to be the culprit. The company knows all about this issue but expect us to pay to put it right - sue them, you can do it online for around £35 (UK).
