I have a 1989 nissan 4 cylender pick up and i am trying to hook up a rpm tach i am trying to figure out witch side of the coil is - neg to hook the green wire up the coil is not marked.

Hook a volt meter up to it paying attention to the red and black
terminals of the tester , turn the ignition on to power up the coil
red on the right terminal black on the motor it should read + V
then switch the tester leads around check again , usually the
coils are marked not the wires .

According to info found online, the wiring for a 1995 F series tach gauge is as follows;

Tach..........Tan/Yellow coil connection.

Your truck does have a coil that feeds the distributor, correct?

What do the symbols P and S stand for on terminals of the tachometer? 1978Chev.305 gas engine with distributor and coil.......jn my boat

tach hook up for chevy with hei distribitor is 1)white wire ; 12volt source 2)red wire -12 volt ignition switch (+) 3)black wire -battery ground (-) green wire ; to tach terminal on dist. / if it not hei with points just put green wire to neg. (-) side of coil

I have a 1989 nissan hardbody d-21 and i can not find the negative side of the coil. im trying to hook up an rpm gauge.

take the plug wire thats going to the distributor turn the truck over and touch it to something thats grounded when its sparks its hot if not its a neg

I have a tach that i took from a junk yard off a trans am or a iroc something like that. i want to put it on a chevy truck dont know how to hook it has these 3 symbol and letters, ig, -, e, can...

aftermarket tachs have 4 wires. red for power (pos.) ,black for ground Green goes to distributor tach terminal or neg side of coil , and white for internal light. yours i'm guessing, ig is power, - is ground,and e is engine. goes to dist. see if that works.
