This could have something to do with the video board, your cable box, or DVD player, or it could be the DLP chip.

If it doesn't do this all the time, I'd take note of when it does occur. Figure out what you're watching, how you're watching it (DVR, Cable, DVD), and then even play around with swapping the cables first.

Then you can narrow it down to the DMD board or the video board. Those can be costly, so you want to rule out all other possibilities first.

How can you diagnose a failed lamp in a Mitsubishi DLP WD 52631

Remove the lamp and do a visual inspection.
If this is a DLP you may have a bad color wheel! whistling sound is a sign of color wheel.

Good luck to you

After about an hour or so watching the tv the screen starts to flicker. I just changed the bulb, thats seems to have delayed the problem. Any advice?

mgs62872,

Is there any noise associated with the times that the unit flickers? Samsungs are notorious for losing the color wheel. I have replaced many and they usually make a high pitched whining sound. It could be high enough of a frequency that you may not hear it. If the lamp is new and the old lamp did not shatter or short out before you changed it I would say that the ballast is fine and I would change the color wheel. You will have to at some point as this is the weak point with the Samsung units. I have at tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4160054-replace_color_wheel_in_dlp_projection_tv which will walk you through the process as well as identify places to purchase the parts at the best price.

Thank you for using FixYa and for the great rating. Great ratings help keep experts solving everyone's problems. Thank you.

Flickering screen, loud buzzing sound, self boot down.

Color wheel bad. Makes rumbling sound. Bad bearings. Has to spin about 10,000 RPMs and sync to DLP chip. Here: https://www.encompassparts.com/webwiz/wwiz.asp?wwizmstr=WEB.SEE&partnumber=5933777&smodel=HLR5067WX/XAA

Screen flicker can also be a bad dynamic black unit. Do you hear a low pitch growl when it flickers?

Problem with color

Yes you have a problem in the red crt driver board. Most likely the driver transistor is failing. This is a component level repair, so if you have no experience with TV repair, play it safe and call in a trained tech to assist you in this matter. Good Luck
