Need tv help

I have a 60" 60p8342a projection tv. There is a white kinda blurr around the outlines of the picture. another thing, I had some one look at it and he said the picture wasn't displaying the right colors on everything. he discribed it as "the color going out" my question is, will replacing the fluid in the tubes fix these problems?

The sympton for contaminated CRT coolant is objects having a halo effect on the effected CRT color. The Blue and green are the CRTs most often contaminated. But to answer the question changing coolant does help. You can look into the crt with it turned on to see if the coolant is congealed. Just be carteful not to touch any components as you look into the CRT lens.

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded over.

Red color outline and double vision

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.

This would be a convergence issue you can run the convergence setup that is in your user manual if that does not work you are going to need service.

thanks

I'd say your convergence needs to be done. There is a user-level service convergence option, which will get your convergence good enough to be watchable. A really tight precision conversion requires a little more.

Also, turn off Scan Velocity Modulation. You probably need to go to the service menu for this.

DO NOT PLAY AROUND IN THE SERVICE MENU.

With your tv off, press mute, then one, then eight, then two, then power on. You should not be in the service menu. Using the channel down buttons (or volume down, I forget which) go down to the "video options" choice. There are four, and I think it's the second one. One of them has the option to set VM level. Select this with volume down, then when you can change it, set it to zero. Now, keep hitting the menu button until you are back to the first screen. Now press the mute button twice. Now turn your tv off and back on. Now switch it out of "dynamic" picture mode (never use it).

To properly calibrate your tv, buy a copy of Digital Video Essentials.
