SOURCE: I have a kitchenaid side

You have to push in hard on the filter. Also the filter rotates clockwise to lock into place. Align the filter in the hole so that the flat tab on the cap is verticle then push in and turn clock wise while turning. Once it starts to recede press in really hard and turn it until the cap tab is horizontal and locks into place.

The brand name of the refrigerator in this video of how to change the filter is not the same as yours but the concept is exactly the same.

Some of them can be a bit stubborn but just press in hard before you rotate the cap to the horizontal position.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

SOURCE: Filter light on refregerator

You don't need the filter if you have city water or if you you prefilter or have pretreated water. Take it out and the fridge will operate normally. I took mine out last year based on advise from a tech and no problems since (actually works better and makes better ice)

Where is the water filter on kenmore coldspot 106.9505712

On the front bottom of your unit you have a grill. On the grill there is a round knob. Turn the knob 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull the filter out. Note the slot on the back of the knob that holds the old filter. Slide the old filter out of the slot and replace with the new filter.
Reinsert the filter with the knob into the filter housing. Turn the knob 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in.
Now, the new filter has air in it. At your water dispenser, fill cups with water. There will be a lot of air and water coming out. Continue this until all of the air is out of the filter and there is just water fill.
When to change your water filter - Your unit has a water filter change light. This light is not tied into water pressure. It is like a egg timer. Every 6 months it will light. This does not mean you need to change your water filter. Change your water filter when your ice cubes start to get small or the water coming out of your dispenser is of a low flow. Depending on your family size, you may not need to change your water filter for several years.

How do you change the water filter?

It looks like the water filter is at the bottom of the refrigerator. You don't even have to open the doors.

At the bottom of the front of the frig, you will see a turn handle. This is the filter. What you need to do is turn the handle a quarter turn (90 degrees) counter clockwise. This will release the filter. Simply pull it out. the handle will slide off the front (this is what you were using to turn the filter). You must keep this and put it on the new filter in the same fashion.

These filter generally cost between $35 and $40 at your local retailer. Ask for a filter number 4396508.
