Thank you! I just have one question, I am going to order a new thermal cut off and a high limit thermosat as the manual says. I had replaced the thermal cut off and as mentioned it work for a very short (hot) time but what does this high limit thermosat do?

Yes, thank you! I ordered the parts last night another $50.00 but cheaper than someone stopping by and those fees involved...Jeff

Manual I suspect a element or a safety, and as you say a venting problem would be causing the wheels to squeak.

This manual shows how to access your heater element and check the components. You will need a meter. Anything that don't have continuity will be the probo. Let me know.

A clogged vent pipe or fluff build up in the filter area causes the heat to build rapidly.
Give the machine a good Hoovering .

I have a maytag dependable care plus electric dryer LDE9334ACE. It has started to make a high pitched squealing noise. I have tried to get into it to check to see if it might be a belt. No idea how to open...

That squeal is a wheel. Most likely the one closest to the heating source. I use a product called zoomspout oil because it is safe for dryers.
Your dryer has glides on it similar but not exactly like this.
check and see if they need to be replaced. They pinch and bind when the plastic wears out.
If that belt gets down in the tub groove you is gonna have trouble. The slick side goes to the tub on this puppy also.

How do you replace the thermal fuse?

The kenmore fuse mounts on the dryer blower housing. On a gas model this fuse when blown will allow the dryer to run however on an electric model this fuse will kill the dryer. The maytag fuse mounts on the right hand side of the heater. Note: the 2 fuses that come in the kit are rated for gas or electric dryers. When this fuse blows the dryer will be dead. The GE fuse mounts in the rear on the heater element pan. When this fuse blows the dryer will continue to run but their will be no heat. Dryer duct fuses are used on various brands of dryers as a back up they usually come in pairs with one mounted on the heater and another near the blower. The kenmore hi limit will kill the heater element but not kill the machine, it mounts on top of the heater housing. The bottom limit comes with it, always replace them both when repairing the dryer.

No heat for the dryer, drum turns, breakers good

Check the thermal fuses / temp sensors mounted on the top exetrior of the heating chamber and also the heating element. Both accessible from the rear of the machine.

Will run but will not heat up

Most likely a bad heating element and or bad thrmostats. you'll need to check these by ohming out after removing the rear panel to your dryer.

NOTE: The heating circuit should be troubleshot with the dryer UNPLUGGED. Dangerous voltages are still present with the dryer turned off. Resistance readings are as follows:

Heating Element (located inside heater box) – remove the two leads from the ceramic terminals on the heating element and take a reading across the terminal points. It should read 9 - 13 ohms.

Thermal Cut-Out (TCO) (mounted to the heater box.) - unplug wires and take reading across connector tabs. Reading should be 0 ohms.

Hi-Limit Thermostat (mounted to the heater box, closest to the heating element leads) - unplug wires and take reading across connector tabs. Reading should be 0 ohms.

If any of the above readings are abnormal, replace the component. NOTE: If the TCO or Hi-Limit Thermostat is defective it is highly recommended by most manufacturers to replace BOTH components at the same time. They are often sold as a set. Without doing so, these components can cause potentially fail again.

Where is the thermal fuse located on pye2300ay dryer

Unplug the cord of the dryer before starting.

Raise top by placing a putty knife between top and front in the seam between the two about 2 inches in from each edge and lifting up at the same time. Raise top to full open position.

Heater is located in the left rear corner behind the tub. High Limit thermostat sits atop the heater and thermal fuse is located toward the right side of the can containing the heater.

Kit number LA-1053 contains several thermostats and fuse. replace all parts in the kit.

No heat

A no heat condition in an electric dryer is typically caused by a blown thermal fuse or a faulty heating element. The thermal fuse is located just inside the rear of the dryer and is usually mounted on the exhaust duct. It is about one inch long. Both components can be tested using a multimeter or ohm meter. Check the components for continuity. No continuity means the component is bad and must be replaced. Sure hope this helped and best wishes.

Our dryer just stopped in the middle of a load and won't start up again at all

I would check for a burned thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is located just inside the rear of the dryer and is usually mounted on the exhaust duct. It is about one inch long. It can be checked with a multimeter or ohm meter for continuity. If it has no continuity, it is bad and will have to be replaced. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Kenmore dryer model 64602 wont turn on???

Check the thermal fuse on the rear of the dryer.
Remove the rear panel. The thermal fuse is 1 and 1/2 inches long by 1/2 inch wide. White in color and located just left of the dryer exhaust vent. 2 purple wires. Jump the wires together and start the dryer. If it runs, replace the thermal fuse.

Replace thermal cut out units

This may be a little overkill, but I thought I would try to be thorough.

If your dryer has the lint screen on top of the unit, you will need to remove the back panel to get to the heating circuits. The heating circuits will be on the right-hand side as you are facing the back of the unit. The Hi-limit thermostat will be the closest to the heating element terminal, while the TCO will be located on the on the opposite end near the top of the heater box housing.

If your dryer has the lint screen in the door, you will need to remove the lower kick panel under the door by pushing in on the release tabs with a putty knife. They are located along the front seam about two inches in from each side. If you own a Kenmore Elite or Whirlpool Duet model, the lower panel is removed by loosening the screws under the bottom edge of the lower panel.
The heating circuits will be on the right-hand side under the drum as facing from the front. The high limit thermostat will be located closest to the heating element terminals, while the TCO is located furthest to the back of the dryer on the heater box housing.

The operating thermostat and thermal fuse (if equipped) are usually located on the blower fan housing.

CAUTION: It is recommended that you unplug the dryer BEFORE servicing the inside or cleaning. There are still dangerous voltages present even with the machine turned off.

Dryer Runs, But Does Not Heat:

Suspected Components:

1. Heating Element (located inside the heater box) - Resistance reading should be 9-13 ohms.
2. Thermal Cut-Out (located on the heater box) - Resistance reading of 0 ohms.
3. Hi limit Thermostat (located on the heater box closest to the heating element leads) – Resistance reading of 0 ohms.
4. Operating Thermostat (located on the air baffle) - (May have 4 wires attached to it). Will read 0 ohms across one set of leads, approx. 7 ohms across the other.

5. Bad Heater Relay (usually located in the console) – this is not equipped on all model dryers. However, on dryers that DO have them, this acts as a switch and turns the heater circuits on at the push of the START switch.

NOTE: It is HIGHLY recommended to replace the High-Limit Thermostat and TCO at the same time of one or the other is found to be defective.

Dryer Does Not Run At All:

Suspected Components:
1. Thermal Fuse (located on the air baffle) - Resistance reading of 0 ohms. NOTE: If the thermal fuse is blown, the drum light will not come on.
2. Broken Drum Belt - If dryer is equipped with a broken belt relay, this will shut the dryer down.
3. Broken Door Switch - If the door switch is broken, this will shut down the entire dryer as no power is applied to the start switch with the door switch open.
4. Bad Start Switch - If the start switch does not toggle close or stay closed when released, the dryer will not start.
5. Bad Timer - If the timer does not function the dryer will not start.
6. Bad Drive Motor - No Motor, drum does not rotate, heating circuits may or may not function. DOUBLE CHECK the CONNECTOR PLUG on the Drive Motor. I have found situations where this plug came loose for whatever reason and caused the dryer to either shut off completely or work intermittently.
7. Bad A/C Receptacle and/or Connector Plug - If you aren't getting the proper voltage to the dryer, it will not run.

These recommendations for TROUBLESHOOTING are not all inclusive as different manufacturer models vary in components and configuration. I hope you find this information helpful. Please post back if you have any further questions.

My Maytag Performa electric dryer (model #PYE2300AZW) will not start. I went through the troubleshooting guide online, but did not help. Is there a built in fuse that can be checked?

thermostat common problem for this machine ( dryers in general) bad thermal fuse, a result of poor venting usually.. with a putty knife or a screw driver the main top can be "poped" open , theres a clip perhaps 3-4 inches in on either side just under main top and from panel assy, after releasing the clips the top can be flipped back to reveal the heater and fuse are. the thermal fuse is located on the right side of the heater box, and can be tested for continuity. no continuity means is blown and needs replacing. part number LA-1053( about 30 bucks). if the fuse checks out ok the n i would check the heater assy and then the thermostat also mounted right there. simple continuity check for all three, all three must have continuity.
