Replace your mouse... it's symptomatic of it being faulty. If it is USB, though, sometimes plugging things in & out can cause the USB bus to Hang.

They say to err is human, but to really mess things up takes a computer. Nothing is more frustrating than to have a computer freeze, shut off with no warning, or, worse, crash completely. One of the more common errors a PC will give you is the freezing of the monitor. With a few simple troubleshooting tips, you can overcome that.

Press Crtl-Alt-Delete (at the same time). This will give you a box generally used to terminate programs. Using the arrows, if you can, shut down all programs running (i.e., Word, Internet Explorer, etc.). Sometimes, it is an error within the programs or with your computer trying to process them all at once that causes your computer to freeze. This is especially true if you have low RAM (anything less than 500 or so MB or RAM). Turn off your computer and restart it. Many times this will end whatever error up above was causing it to drag. If the computer is still frozen when it comes back on, go on to the next steps. Press the tower's power button and hold on to it until the entire system shuts down. Turn off the main power switch and turn it and the computer back on. Sometimes a computer only looks like it is shutting down, but in actuality is not. This should solve the problem. If it doesn't, move on to the next steps. step 4. Try a different mouse. If you have a mouse that connects to a PS2 port, the mouse could be bad. If the mouse doesn't work in that port, the port may be bad, too. Many times people only think their computer is frozen, but really the mouse doesn't work. step 5. Try connecting a USB mouse into a USB port. If it works, you now know that either your PS2 mouse or port are bad. If you have a USB mouse to begin with, try connecting it into another USB port, since the original port may be bad. Try Steps 4 and 5 for the keyboard as well. Take it to a computer doctor, or to the technical department at the store where you purchased it. If none of the above work, you have a bigger problem on your hands. Your computer may be in the initial stages of crashing.

Try draining the power of the computer first. completely shut it down by pressing poweer button for like 5-7 sec. then unplug power supply from the outlet. then press and hold power button for another 15-20 sec. After that, plug back in the power cord, and turn computer on normally.

Mouse Stops Responding

You need to reset the mouse and keyboard to the sensor. On the sensor(base) you should have a button and under the mouse you should have also a button. Press the sensor(base) button first and quickly the one under the keyboard and mouse. If the doesn't work shut down the system, unplug the mouse and keyboard sensor(base) and re-plug it back in . Start the system and try the process again.

Computer well not boot

The computer may have done a routine software update that automatically reboots the PC when complete. HP is known for this. If it fires up when you turn it on, no worries. If its DOA then thats another issue. Best regards.

Mouse has power but just sits in middle of screen

Has the computer been ON all the time? What type of mouse is it, PS2 (round plug) or USB (flat plug). If it is PS2 and it got unplugged, it will not work again until you power the system down, make sure the mouse is properly connected and then start the system again. The mouse should be detected and operated normally once the OS is up and running.

Good luck and please let me know how it works out for you.

Try unplugging the Mouse again, then take the Power Lead out the back of the PC, and leave it to stand for a few mins atleast. Then plug the USB Mouse back in, plug the Power Lead back into back of PC and Boot Up. That should work for you.
