Microwave oven Dear Sir, I bought a 3 in 1 microwave oven and want to have it built in on top of a ordinary convection oven. How much space should be left on the top, sides and back. The manual says; with 85cm height but at least 20cm of space on the top and 10cm at the back. It seems rather al lot of space. Please can you help me. Thank you Bokka

Dear Sir,
I took your advice. The sales personal at the store where we bought the 3 in 1 oven
from, sadly had very little product knowledge. This morning I spoke to the guy that's
going to do the kitchen cupboards and he confirmed that the open space all round this oven is important, as you mentioned, to avoid over heating. However, with the right, know how, it can be built in on top of a ordinary convection oven. I were just a
little worried hearing that this oven is fairly new in SA and also in our sea side village.
Thanks again,
Bokka

No sir we cant, if that's the requirements for the microwave to run with out trouble, then that's what you have to follow. if you dont, it might overheat because of poor ventilation.

Do I keep the glass plate in the microwave when on convection oven mode

If it came with the oven a definite yes as it will be able to withstand the heat during the convection setting. If a ordinary plate is used it must be rated for use in ovens as it will become very hot on convection oven mode. So, if it can withstand use in a ordinary oven it will work just as good in a convection oven.

Is the sharp above range microwave model r-1871t recirculating?

According to the Sharp product site, http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/HomeAppliances/Microwaves/Models/R1871.aspx , the R-1871 is a convection and microwave oven. The manual describes using the convection oven feature on page 18 (page 20 of the PDF). The direct link to the manual is: http://files.sharpusa.com/Downloads/ForHome/HomeAppliances/MicrowaveOvens/Manuals/mic_man_R1872.pdf . The convection button is on the top left in the middle group of buttons. You use the numeric power level buttons to set the oven temperature. When you program convection cooking, the 1 button will bring the oven to 100 degrees F. The 6 button gets the oven to 350 degrees F.

I hope this helps.

I bought a microwave at an aution. No owner manual Kenmore model #970-86116-001. It has an element in the top and has buttons that say microwave, convection, convection roast etc. There is no glass plate at...

If you press "convection" the oven works just like a regular oven except that the element is on top. In "microwave" it works like a microwave oven. All you have to do is decide which mode you want to use and then punch in the time and hit "start". The glass plate is not really a necessity as long as you make sure there is a load in the oven when you are "microwaving".

Ya those are a classic, really made tasty baking with convection heat but think it is old machine. Could be just a bad chord as unit runs about 12 amps. Like space heater, if they loose some connection start to make chord not good. I would look for another. I've seen a China one for around $100, and built-in ovens at Habitate for Humanity retail store with that feature for reasonable. Good to fix but when dealing with high amp points, they will wear out as they do with space heaters often.

Built-in Sharp Carousel II Microwave Convection Oven died.

There are a couple of safety thermostats in the oven to shut down power if something overheats. One is on the magnetron tube (the microwave source), the other is on the cooking cavity. These sometimes go bad. There's also a power line fuse that may have failed, or become loose in its mounting clips. These can be tested with an ohmmeter; they should all measure very close to zero ohms if they're good.

Another possibility is that the control circuit board in the oven may have failed. I have worked on several Sharp ovens where the power transformer for the board has gone bad for no good reason. If the board goes bad the oven may appear to be dead as well.

Microwave servicing is best left to professionals. If you're thinking of keeping this one, take it to a service shop (or call for home service) and get an estimate. Then decide whether to repair or replace.

Hope this has helped a little. Thanks for using Fixya!

Built up grease in oven

I've found the best way to get grease to loosen up in any oven is to place a glass or coffee cup of undiluted ammonia in the oven overnight. The ammonia vapors attack the grease, softening it. The next day:

  1. remove the ammonia
  2. mix it with a 2 cups of water
  3. wear protective gloves
  4. using a non-abrasive cloth or sponge wipe the grease off the surfaces.
  5. switch to clean water only, wipe the oven one last time to remove the ammonia residue left by the cleaning.

Light bulb in oven went out

Remove the top grill by removing two screws in the top. Pull the top of the grill out towards you as the bottom has pegs on it. About 6 inches from the left is metal cover that you just squeeze with your finger tips to remove. This exposes the bulb.

Insructions

Looking at mine, it fits in pretty snug. Not much space needed on the sides and the top is bolted into the cupboard. This may help a bit but you may want to look at the install instructions for your specific model:
