Question about Siemens SpeedStream Modem (4100) (SS4100)

DSL light flashes on and off and wont stay on have had problem for several months with intermittant loss of connection now its permanent. Tried using shorter cable to modem and unplugged from computer but modem still not syncing is it modem or line? Optus have told me that line test is inconclusive!

Hello there!

You should try to check for shorted, cracked or loose connections on your telephone line and extensions(if you have one).

Once you've concluded that there really is no problem with your lines, then have your modem checked by your provider's support group or have your modem replaced.

Also make sure you have the filters in place to EVERY phone plugged into your house line.

I have AT&T and the same thing happened to me. I called AT&T tech support and there was a ripped wire underground. If the answer above me doesn't work, call your internet provider.

    Theres no dsl light on the router, its a d link dsl2640b. so i need to know if its broke, the power light is on and the status light but no dsl light and no internet light on router, the pc is showing...


    The flashing DSL light means that the modem isn't seeing the DSL signal on the phone line it's connected to. This might be due to modem failure, but it might also indicate a phone line problem. The most common trouble I run across is an unfiltered device connected on the line that interferes with the DSL signal. Other than the modem, all devices (phones, fax machines, security systems, etc.) need to be connected to the line through a filter. Check to be sure something hasn't been connected without a filter. Sometimes a phone gets moved or a new phone is added that gets plugged in to a handy jack without being filtered.

    If you can, try connecting another modem to the line. You may be able to borrow one, or find one at a resale shop. I see them quite often for only a couple of dollars, leftover from people changing to FiOS or cable service. This can help determine if the modem is responsible.

    One final possibility: your DSL service has been cut off. I've had two cases where loss of DSL was a phone company issue that they needed to fix at their office. (One following some wiring work done in apartment building, the other when service was mistakenly disconnected from the wrong customer.)

    This kind of trouble can be a headache to solve, but it can be solved. Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!

    When i connected my belkin n150 it wont connect to the internet the modem light flashes amber ,It says connected on my laptop but the modem light wont stay green


    Your Router Should Be Configured for your Internet Service Provider. To do that you have to contact your Belkin technical support & they will give you a hand. Or Please update some Details about your Internet connection who is your Internet Service Provider. What type of Internet Connection are you using is it DSL or Cable.     Arc mouse wont turn on, it was working fine until it started to get unresponsive and the red light started flashing so i replaced the batteries but now it wont turn on. I even tried connecting the reciever...


    In extensive use the USB-device overheats. Removing it when not in use helps, but it is allready permanently damaged and only real solution is to switch the mouse to new one.

    Guarantee is 3 years. Wich is a good thing because these tend to fail in 6 months to 2 years.

    hi,there are a lot of possibilities y ur dsl light wont stop flashing red, 1.could be hardware failure,2.defective lead light for dsl,3.or line issue on the network...i strongly recommend that you contact your isp or att provider so that test would be done by their tech support,...basically you have checkd all inside wirings n as you have said you even tested the nid already...have you tried changing the dsl cable or phone cable? have you tried using another modem? were you using a filter for your dsl? you have to consider also other emi/rfi or electronic interference....but most probably you might try upgrading your modem n see if your gonna get a steady dsl light...the ethernet plugs has no effect on the dsl light...its just the cable connection or line issue or defective modem...i hope this will help, pls feel free to ask if you need further astnce...
