Question about Dell E172FP 17" LCD Flat Panel Monitor

Monitor comes on shows a screen and then the power buttom begins to blink every 2 seconds and a black screen on the monitor remains blank

Try starting your computer in safe mode ( tap F8 while it boots up). If this works then you have probably got it set to the wrong resolution. Set it to the correct resolution (google the name of your monitor to find it's maximum resolution, or just set it to something low like 800x600 or 1024x768) by right-clicking on an empty bit of desktop and selecting the video settings or control panel for your video card.

If this does not work and you have checked your cables and your video card, then I would suggest you have a faulty monitor.

Dell 17inch flat screen monitor will not remain on, the screen go


If your Dell monitor still under into warranty, better to call Dell technical support and have them replace your monitor coz there is no way you can fix on it.

If the monitor is beyond with the warranty already, better to but a new one than taking it repair that will cost you much.

Could be a power issue. If it doesn't show anything at all then that may be the case. It may also be the display itself. It would be a costly repair so you might be better off finding a new monitor.

Power on - blank (black) screen


Disconnect the monitor signal cable from PC and switch on your monitor. It should show some logo with Red, Green and Blue colors with a message similar to "No signal". If so, your monitor is working fine. Sometimes if the brightness and contrast is set to zero using controls present in the monitor, it will not show up anything. check wheather somebody set your monitor brightness and contrast to zero. If so incease them. As a last try connect to different PC and check before approaching a service center. I hope this will help you out. :)

My hp vs19e monitor has dark screen and blinking power button.


Could be the power module or the backlights (more likely backlights if the "luminance" varies)- $156 sounds a little high but not insane, but you realize cost of replacement is lower, do you not?

Possible that the HV inverter or the CFL tubes are going bad / defective. I suggest to bring the unit to an authorized Acer service center for proper check-up / test & fix the problem. regards

Monitor L17AMTN flashes WinXP desktop, then blanks.


dmellman, Before you open it up, try this! With fully booted pc and WIN DESKTOP screen up, reconnect the L17AMTN . Have a bright flashlight handy so that when the lcd screen flashes on for 1 second and then goes dark, you will want to check to see if the desktop remains on the screen even though you think it went away. Shine the light 1-2 inches from screen at different angles. Has the desk top completely disappeared or is it still being displayed? Do you know about Cold-Cathode-Fluorescent tubes and their Inverter type power supply? I assume that this unit also has a "lay on floor black box switch-mode-power-supply" that is supposed to supply raw 12v-14v dc to the monitor? This symptom is typical of lcd monitor power supply failure, and or inverter board failure. Not to mention the fact that the CCFT's could be a bit tired from use. YOUTUBE has some videos on taking apart lcd monitors. also do search on web for "bad caps on lcd boards" or "bad caps in lcd monitors". you have bad capacitors in the power board inside the monitor replace these and the monitor will work fine

Self-Test Feature Check (STFC) Your monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by performing the following steps:
  1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove Analog (blue connector) cables from the back of computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor. The floating 'Dell - self-test Feature Check' dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background) if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains green and the self-test pattern will scroll through the screen continually.
  4. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the monitor.
If your monitor screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.

Monitor displays properly then screen goes blank


it seems tht the monitor has gone bad & needs to be replaced....try running a monitor self test by unplugging the monitor cable frm the back of the cmputer & make sure the monitor is receving power frm the wall outlet....chk if the monitor displays anything......let me knw if it wrks
