Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

G E refridgerator, model # GSS20IEPH WW SER.# AH274075 has a water supply, it is making ice but will not despence ice or water. when you push the dispence button nothing comes out, the light comes on but is very dim and blinking. The mother board in back of ref. is making a ticking noise , but when you push the dispise button it quits but starts when you let up. Do I need to replace the mother board?

Can't see any discoloration on the board, but I can feel it vibrate whenever you hear the "clicking" noise.

  • kbsharp57 Feb 05, 2010

Ok...but just to make sure we are talking the same part, on the GE website the part I am looking at is called the: "Board ASM Main Control" Would this be it? The price is $189

    Colts fan, huh???

    one more question for you...

the Sears site shows a dimension for the part, but it doesn't match the actual size of the one in there now. The replacement part is much bigger...

    Any ideas on that?

  • kbsharp57 Feb 05, 2010

Great, I will order the part tonight.

We also admire Payton Manning a LOT, always have.

But being Louisiana natives and following the Saints thru good times and bad....well, you know..

I too believe it will be a really good game.

HI. Your symptom's indicate that the main PCB has failed. It may be weak relay action, or PCB circuit failure. In any case, the necessary actions, at this point, will be to have the damaged PCB replaced, asap.

Im sure there will be burn marks on the actual board. Once you have gained access to allow for the visual inspection, check the board for circuit/relay damage. INspect for any discolorations on the circuit layout, A brownish , or black burn marks Will confirm the damaged location of the board.

Most PCB's are located just above the compressor platform, behind an access panel. In some cases, the PCB will be mounted on a bracket, in close proximity to the compressor assembly.

I see. the damage is relay related. Go ahead a replace that PCB. It will be the culprit, in this case.

Yes. This is correct. The part number will be WR55X10942. You can actually purchase this at for $148.49.

Once you have logged onto the sears parts site, simply enter that part number above into the space provided, and click the search tab. You will then be directed to the part. It is much cheaper there.

No need to worry. The part number I posted is for the substitution board. the original board was discontinued, due to design flaw. The substitution board may differ in appearance, but is the exact equivalent to the original board assembly. The original board part number was WR55X10473.

    It will fit.

Concerning the colts, I am a huge Payton Manning fan. With that begin said, I am also very impressed with Drew Breeze and the Saints:)

It will be a great game.

Not making ice, and no water at the despencer

sounds like you have no water supply. The water is supply is usually a small 1/4 line that runs to the nearest water supply.....usually under the sink. See if there is a line coming in there and if the line has a shutoff valve.

Plhs67es fridgidaire refrigerator no water despence or making ice

Always remember Safty First to turn off power and water supply and only turn them on as needed!!!
I checked water supply it was great and then check the valves (solinoids) and the power and all was good. The next thing I checked was the water from the supply valve to the filter at the same time I put some water in the ice maker to make sure it was working (leave it to make sure it drops the ice). The filter was new but was defective. Water went to the filter but did not return any to the despencer or the ice maker. During the different test I performed I also found that the lines hook to valves that the filter plugged into and since the new filter fixed the problem those valves were ok but could have been the problem therefore I suggest if you have this problem remove the filter and depress the small valve with a small object (like a hollowed out pen) and call for the water to be dispenced. If the water does not spray out then you have another problem...I went threw the whole system to find a bad filter, which I thought in the begining but since the other filter was new I done all of the above.
Although I figured out the problem myself this is a great Web Site. Thank You

Hello? I have a new Eclipse Kenmore being installed Tuesday 12/23. What do I need to provide for a water supply?

I see your installation date has come and gone, but if you still need to hook up the water you can find an "ice-maker kit" from almost any home improvement store (such as Lowes, Ace, Home Depot etc....) This includes 1/4" bendable copper tubing and a valve that will tap a near by cold water supply pipe. If you find a kit with plastic tubing, I would steer clear and find the bendable copper. Plastic tubing kits are notorious for springing leaks. Buy some extra compression nuts and washers for the tubing while you are there, it may take more than one try to get a waterproof seal if this is your first time hooking up water and ice dispenser.

When hooking up the tubing to the back of the refridgerator, leave a couple coils of slack to allow the refridgerator to be pushed in or pulled out without straining the connection. There is usually a small clamp on the refridgerator back to hold the tubing steady, make sure you use this. This will help ensure a leak free connection. After you have the tube hooked up, push the refridgerator all the way back, then pull it back out and check for leaks. Sometimes the tube will start dripping a bit after the refridgerator is moved, so this step helps ensure you won't have leak problems.

No Ice on GE Side by SIde -TFX25JRYF-WW

Usually there is a big metal frame-switch that controls the flow of water. It is located right above the ice tub. If your ice tub is full the ice cubes push this metal switch up so as to stop water supply. If you remove the ice tub out, chances are that you have accidentally pushed the metal switch all the way up until it clicks and stays there. In this position, the ice mold water flow is permanently stopped.

Insert the tub again in its position slowly. Before fully inserting it, pull the metal switch down inside the empty tub. With the switch down, insert the ice tub back into position.

If that does not apply for your refridgerator, look for a similar water flow switch to turn back on the water flow.

Hope this helps

Water leaking out of freezer door water dispenser

The fill valve that supplies the water may not be shutting off completely. Also check to see that the lever is closing completely.
