Question about Westinghouse 32" Flat Panel LCD HDTV

4 Answers

We lose the picture and the screen turns black. If we wait 10 or 15 seconds, we can re-start it.The repair shop says it needs a new board; it acts intermittent. It's only three years old. The repair shop- wants $250.00. I wonder if it's something I can fix (with your help)

I opened the back of the TV and the capacitors look fine. I wonder if I could replace the whole PC board?? This is the number on the PC Board: CMO(in large letters)T871015:01 REV:1E LF
The capacitors were 6HDM and there were 8 of them.

When the screen goes black, there has never been any audio. When I turn it off and wait 20 seconds to a minute, and turn it back on, it may work (audio and video) for a minute or two, or an hour or two. Then the screen goes black again.

Our three year old 32" Westinghouse TV seems to have some sort of intermittent problem. Any time within the first hour, the TV turns black, there's no sound, and needs to be shut down. When I turn it back on, it will possibly work from a few minutes to a couple hours. This went on for about six months until when I turn it on now, it won't do anything.
I opened the back and checked the capacitors and there are no bulging ones (suggested by a tech). I was told by the repair shop I needed to have the board replaced (for $250.00) If there is something I can do with your help, I'd like to try to repair it myself.

I would like to try to replace the board with your help. What details do you need to have in order to send me to the right replacement board. This is the info I have on this board: CMO T871015.01 REV:1E LF and it's a 32" Westinghouse 720p.

What I could advise is to get a second opinion from another local repair shop. Because based on the problem, I could see that you have a bad inverter board. And that inverter board would only cost for more than a $100.

So contacting another repair shop for second opinion would be the best thing to do.

Good luck and have a great day!

Bad capacitors on the power supply PCB. These are easy to locate as the top of them will be bulged. Normally the 1000uf/16v caps give the most problem. If you are good with a soldering iron you should not have any problem changing them. Go to a local repair shop for new caps and if possible upgrade them to the next highest voltage. Normally 25v or 35v. Good luck and thanks for using fixya.

After the picture turns black do you still have sound? If yes then darken the room and see if you can spot a dull glow on the tv after the picture goes off.

Let me know your findings,
Sai.

Ok.. That definitely sounds like a power supply board issue. If you are not good at electronics like soldering, de-soldering etc., then it may be best for you to replace the board. The turning off in a few minutes is often accompanied by clicking noise(Do you hear that as well?) If yes then the fault lies with the relay of the power board. Let me know if this is the case and you are willing to go component level so that I can guide you with it. If not I will link you to the site from where you can get a replacement power board.

Yes you can replace it yourself. The part number you have specified is also correct. You can purchase by clicking on the link below
    http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalog/product...
replacing it is simple. Unscrew it from the chassis remove the old connectors connect them to the new board and screw it into the chassis. However you should wear an ESD wrist strap to avoid damaging the board with static discharge.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Why my screen says please wait then goes black

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

Model hln617w. the picture on the screen freezes into a black and white image of what was showing on the screen. with no blinking LEDs, yet. I turn off the tv, then turn it back on. thats when the LEDs...

Most likely your problem is on the DMD Assy Board P/N BP96-00249A . More presicely there is a few bad electronic components on that board that are bad. That board can be repaired by replacing the bad components (and the other few compoonents that are probly going bad and will soon cause your tv to lockup and lose remote and button functions when it fails so you will need to unplug it to get it on again).
Or the DMD board can be replaced .But it is not a cheap board.
For removal and Installation of the DMD board I would reccomend a tv service person because it is in the heart of the television and there are some adjustements to be made when the new board is installed.
To get the new board you could probably find it by just gooogling the part number.
Component level repair would require some experience in desoldering and soldering SMT,SMD , and or surface mount components. The actual components are about $15.00 total so just repairing your board should cost about $125.00 by a qualified servicer (if you were to remove and install it yourself). This DMD board is used in many models and can a few common problems.

SYMPTOMS:
-Intermittant picture freezing with a negative looking B/W frozen picture.
-Intermittant loss of pic with/without shutdown, abnormal color wheel noise if attempted to start after shutdown.
-lockup of tv control functions . Remote and front keypad do nothing , TV must be unplugged to reset .
-horizantal tearing, distortion , flippnig , solarization , red picture, leading to blank screen and lockup.(tv menu would be affected by all picture defects).
Hope this helps someone..

I can not see image on screen

If you can see the picture before you take it, then the taken picture is black - Camera needs repair at a service shop - aligment.
If you cannot see the picture before you try and take it - The lens shutter is jammed. A repair shop is required. Could be $80 -$200+ depending on parts costs and labour.
These are only probable answers.

Picture and Sound flash from 'on' to a black screen

Hi, The problem lies within the unit. You have a hardware failure within the board. The power supply board needs to be repaired or replaced. If you are a handy person, you can easily swap the power supply board.. If not, bring it you to local reapir shop, they will find the parts and replace it for you. I wish I had a better solution like an easy fix for you. Sorry, but on hardware failure, there is no easy fix. Thanks, Mike

Screen goes black after 2 seconds

This is a mean problem, and I feel for anyone who has it.

This can be caused by a bad power board, a bad main board or a lcd LCD panel.

An authorized repair shop would be able to substitute the main and power boards to find the source of the fault, but you don't have that luxury.

Unless you want to risk paying for an expensive part you don't need, I would suggest you take it to an Akai repair shop.
