Unlocking of a car radio

Hi

I have a volvo S40. The battery died whilst in the garage and when it was turn back on again the radio asked for a code, I attempted to enter the code which I thought it was but it has lock me out. I now have the correct code but everytime I turn the radio on it just says "off" is there anyway that I can change this to put my correct code in?

Chardaker,

Try leaving the car sit with the key on(the engine doesn't need to be started) for 10 or 20 minutes - often that will return the radio to where it will again be prompting you for the code.

Battery died, got jump, now the radio is off and needs a code for 2001 Volvo S40, that I don't have.

Hi!!
When the battery is disconnected or drained and you restore power, the radio will say 'CODE' on the display. This is your cue to find the easily misplaced credit-card lookalikes that have your radio's code written on it. New Volvo owners got two, I believe.

Dealers have your radio code in a database, and can look it up. Many will give you the code over the phone if you've lost your card. You can call any Volvo dealer: they all have the same computer system to look up your Volvo radio code.

Sometimes the code is written on the radio itself. But you have to pull the radio out (not hard) to see it.

Other dealers will have you drive to their lot and speak to them in person. Because the dealer will need to read off the radio's serial number to cross-reference it with the unique code, bring your radio, and your Volvo. Some reportedly charge US$10-$100 for this. Hmmmmm. I suppose dealers can choose to charge for this, and we can choose to not go back, right?

If you don't have the code, call the dealer to ask what they need from you. Don't pay the dealer any money for the code! If they want money, hang up and call another.

Good Luck!! A 4 THUMBS UP rating for this solution will be highly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

How do I reset my radio and get a code for it

usually when a code is needed you can talk to your local dealer and they should be able to get the code from the factory, when they get it usually you have turn the key to acc for about 5 minutes (sometimes longer) and then you input the code by whatever means like using your seek buttons to change the number and your volume knob or buttons to change which character you are wanting to change

Volvo radio unlock problem

Turn the ignition on 1st position. Engine off. Ensure headlights are off to avoid battery drain. Turn power to radio on, 'Off' appears. Leave like this for approx 2 hours. It should then ask you for the code again.
