Question about Dyson "Stowaway" Canister Vacuum Vacuum

2 Answers

I have a dyson canniter stow away vacuum. i've had it for 2 years and it just started having a problem. when i turn it on the motor starts just fine but the vacuum head does not turn on. Yet when i push it forward it trys to start and turns on for a second and turn off - almost like the connector isn't connecting the hose to the head very well anymore.

I cleaned the washable hepa filter and no change. There is another filter under the canister part of the vacuum and it's pretty dirty but it's not a washable one. Does that one just need to be replaced? And there are no blockages - I have checked thoroughly.

I cleaned the hepa filter and no results. There are no blockages in the hoses or canister or anything I can see There is another filter under the canister. Not sure how to clean this one or should it just be replaced. Anyway, there has been no change.

the motor in the canister part of the vacuum works but not the motor in the vacuum head. I haven't replaced the second filter yet. I will do that and let you know what happens.

Hi, After reading you're problem, the symptom's are just like you said. Its just a matter of checking the connections. The connection where it plugs into the head it self. When you push forward the forward motion and down pressure makes the connection for a few seconds. Anywhere you have a power connection double check it to see if it is loose. I wouldn't think it is a serious problem, just a matter of looking it over very good. You should have no problem in finding the solution. When you first turn it on is when the head should also turn on, so, that's where I would check first where the hose connects to the motor. Move the hose and head around to see if it trys to start and see if you can locate the problem. Keep me posted on what you have found and we can go from there.
Sincerely, Shastalaker7

You vaccum seems to be clogged or has a blockage in either the fitler media or filter area, hose assembly and hose attachment area. Unplug the vacuum from the power source before attemping to clean of clear any blockage. I have added a link that you may find useful with very detailed instructions.

A clogged filter is considered a type of blockage. Does the motor continue to run when you say that "it turns on for a second, then turns off"?

The motorized head starts as soon as it's connected without me having to squeeze the trigger. should this happen?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your new DC44 - the motorised heads should definitely not be rotating when attached to the vacuum for storage. They should only rotate when you're holding down the on/off trigger and using the vacuum for cleaning.

I'm confident we can resolve this for you, and as your machine is so new it should be well within our free 2-year parts and labour cordless guarantee. Please email me directly at help@dyson.co.uk so I can take some further details.

I'll look forward to hearing from you.

Overheating motor

Hi Fran, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulty with your DC25. Like most Dyson vacuums, this machine is engineered to shut off for protection if it starts to overheat.

This will usually be due to a blockage, or because the filters need a wash. As your machine is continuing to shut off, it does sound like there's still something inside the machine that you may have missed. For help locating any issues, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:
http://content.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1148&product=DC25-ALLFLOORS

DC25 has two filters, and it's important to wash these at least once every 3 months as shown in the video attached. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for the filters to dry completely before replacing them.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you would like some further advice from our experts after you've given this a try, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

Jack

HOW TO TEST A DYSON MOTOR.

A DC-7 has a Panasonic motor which is the best part of it. I have never seen one of those fail within the life expectancy. You do have to consider that a Dyson was never designed to last more than 5 years. The newer Dysons are only designed to last 2 years. If the motor runs for 15 minutes and overheats, my first guess would be a faulty heat sensor on the motor. If it ran only 30 seconds or so, probably a bad motor.

I changed the motor in my Dyson Animal hoover and works fine but after 15 minutes it stops as if it was turned off, if i leave it for a period (2 hrs)it will start up again and work for a further 15 mins...

Hi there

All Dyson vacuum cleaners are fitted with a thermal cutout, which will switch off the motor if it becomes too hot. This is normally caused by a lack of airflow to the motor, i.e caused by a blockage or a dirty filter.

I would make sure that you have completed the full blockage procedure and have thoroughly washed the filter and see if this helps.

Kind regards

Loss of suction in hose

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It may be worth following the blockage procedure outlined in your user guide or on our website at www.dyson.com and look at our support section.

If this doesnt resolve the issue, its likely that your DC24 is still covered by the 5 year Dyson guarantee as we only started manufacturing the DC24 about 2 years ago.

If you need further help, call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).
