Question about Cooktops

1 Answer

We have a Jenn Air cooktop model C203 (about 20 years old). The "insert" (additional 2 burners on the left side where the grill / griddle would otherwise be) seems to not always work properly. That is, when you turn it on, sometimes they don't get hot until you "jiggle" the connection where the insert plugs in. I assume there's a loose connection. Thoughts?

You could yank the drop in module out and clean the contacts. The receptacle can be replaced.

I have a Jenn Air gas cooktop, only about 2 years

If the burner just clicks and won't stare try this (a local tech showed me) Scrape the underside of the burner cap (the removable black disk in the middle of the burner) with a key or knife and watch it work! But be ready to do it again and again. There's a glossy finish left by the factory he said.

Both burners turn on when only one is needed

I just had the same problem- when I replaced the whole cartridge.
I repalced the infinite switch- do the one that gets the hottest- or do both.
It is easy to do- just write down the wiring diagram - make sure all power is off- cost of new switch was about $37.00
This solved the problem- however make sure to check the sizng on the new switch shaft as my old knob would not fit properly on the shaft of the new switch.
good luck

Yes. Buy a burner module. Sears sells them also most appliance part stores. (I am assuming you have the model with 2 knobs on the grill side) The electric version of burner modules is around $100 Gas should be similar price.

Exhaust fan comes on when burner turned on

The left side is set for your grill. There is apparently a switch under the left side top / front of the cooktop. The aeration tray has a prong on one end that fits into a hole in the front end of the burner basin and activates the switch which stops the fan from coming on when using the burners and allows the fan to run when using the grill. Try switching sides with the aeration trays as one might make better contact than the other.
