The system is running very slow
Normally the symptoms you described would be due to using an expandable memory card (a 2GB microSD, for example)and have loaded too many songs.
Another possibility is that your Sansa E260 may be encountering corruptions in its internal/external memory.
One solution would be to perform a "Low Level" format on the player under MSC mode, thus, eliminating any corruption on the player. To do so, please switch the player's mode to MSC. Under this mode, your player would function as a normal media storage device (like a flash drive).
Just a reminder: Formatting would delete all of the files on your Sansa E260. You may want to make back-up copies of important files on your player before you proceed to the solution below.
Here's how to perform a "Low Level" format:
Plug your player to your PC (Just a reminder, your player's minimum Operating System requirement is Windows XP and above). Windows XP would identify your player as a "Removable Drive".
On your desktop, please single right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Manage" from the pop-up menu list. This would open the "Computer Management" window.
On the left pane on the "Computer Management" window, single left-click on "Disk Management" (this is located on the middle section of the list, under "Storage").
Look at the topmost portion of the right pane. This would give you a list of drives, one which would correspond to your Sansa E260. On the icon pertaining to your Sansa E260, please right-click on it and select "Format" on the pop-up menu list. This would display the "Format" window.
On the "Format" window, please make sure that the File System type is FAT32, and also make sure that the "Quick Format" checkbox -- found on the bottom section of that windows -- remains unchecked. Click "Start" to begin formatting the player.
Re-transfer all your music files to the player. The most preferred method is to use Windows Media Player 10 or 11 to transfer the files to your player. Another method would be to "copy and paste" or "drag and drop" the files as long as they aren't subscription music files
I hope this helps resolve the "lag time" you're encountering. I just love the Sansa E260!
