Question about Brother MFC-5440CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

Brother printer MFC-5440CN No yellow ink

All colors ok except not getting any yellow on "Print Quality Check". Previous owner put in a odd ball yellow cartrige so I replaced with new Brother cartrige. After many cleanings and test pages still no sigh of any yellow ink on test page. I have no idea how long the printer may have been unused.

Thanks for your help, did as you instructed and still no yellow. Guess I will take in for service. Looks like an ordeal to get heads out of machine.

If one or more of the ink colors is missing from pages printed by your machine, nozzles or ink jet in the print head may be clogged, or the ink cartridge in question may not be installed correctly. As you have said that you have the ink cartridges are installed correctly and/or cleaning the print head may resolve this problem.I would recommend you for cleaning the print head on your printer.
1. Press the Ink, Ink/Reports, Ink Management/Reports or Ink Management key.Use the up or down navigation key to select CLEANING.
2. Press Menu/Set to confirm your choice.
3. Use the up or down navigation key to select the color that is not printing
-OR-
Select ALL if more than one color is not printing.

4. Press Menu/Set to confirm you choice. The machine should begin cleaning automatically, and the LCD will alternately show "CLEANING" and "PLEASE WAIT". When the machine completes its cleaning cycle, the LCD will display the date and time.
5. Test by printing the "Print Quality Check Sheet":
i. Press the Ink, Ink/Reports, Ink Management/Reports or Ink Management key.
ii. Use the up or down navigation key to select TEST PRINT.
iii. Press Menu/Set to confirm your choice.
iv. Use the up or down navigation key to select PRINT QUALITY.

If one or more of the ink colors is still missing from the printed page, repeat the print head cleaning steps listed above up to 4 more times. After each cleaning, print the Print Quality Check Sheet to see if there is any improvement. If you clean the print head and the print has not improved, the machine will require service.

I have a all in one color LC61 printer, do all colors have to be filled to print blk only?

Greyscale is color not black only.
You can print in black and it will look grayscale only darker, printers are a pain to work with after a year has gone by, I can expect almost a half hour to print something with my $400 epson because one of the colors is out even though I never printed in the last year a colored page. I take the color cartirges out and they are empty, but I only print a page 2-3 times a year. I use the scanner all the time. Brother and epson have their print heads in the printer not the cartridge so make sure your inks are always have something in it or it will be miricle for the printer to last more than a year. Check colors every other week. One Epson printer only lasted 3 months because I never used it(print head dried up). Never use the set up with tubes running outside printer to small tanks of ink if you only use it occationally.

My brother MFC 665CW printer shows a 4F error and unable to clean. How do I get to the head to clean it?

Do the following to clean the print head:

1. Press INK key on the control panel.

2. Press the DOWN arrow key until CLEANING appears on the LCD.

3. Press OK.

4. Press the DOWN arrow key to select BLACK, COLOR or ALL depending on what you want to clean.

5. Press OK.

The machine will clean the print head. When cleaning is finished, the machine will go back to Ready automatically. If you are experiencing a print quality issue, we recommend you repeat the print head cleaning for each color showing an issue at least five (4) times.

If you are experiencing a print quality issue and want to see if the cleanings are improving the print quality, print a Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS) after the first cleaning and then print another PQCS after repeating the print head cleaning steps at least three (3) more times (4 total cleanings). You can then compare the two Print Quality Check Sheets.

Do the following to print a Print Quality Check Sheet:

1. Press INK key on the control panel. TEST PRINT will appear on the LCD.

2. Press OK. PRINT QUALITY will appear on the LCD.

3. Press OK.

4. Press COLOR START.

NOTE: The machine will generate the Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS). On the PQCS each of the four colors is represented by a slanted square pattern made up of 96 individual blocks. The colors should appear (from left to right): Black - Yellow - Cyan - Magenta. Cyan is the light blue color and Magenta is the pinkish color.

Printer keeps telling me that the yellow cart is empty and I have put a new one in

Are you positive it says the yellow cart is empty? Because that brother printer is designed to say that a cartridge is empty whenever ANY of the color cartridges are empty. Usually it doesn't tell you which one is really empty either. So even if you replaced the yellow cartridge and say, the black cartridge is empty, it still won't let you print until you replace that empty black cartridge, nor will you know which of the cartridges is empty unless you pull them out of the printer and manually check the ink levels.

Its pretty much a guessing game with those old brother ink printers.

Hope this helps :)

My mfc-240c won't print red, even with a new cartdrige.

Try running a few cleanings on the color.

Press the ink button and select cleaning,, do about five cleanings. Print the ink quality test page (from the ink button as well) and see the quality if it improved.

If it still doesnt print its possible the ink is clogged and may need servicing to replace the printer head

Clean the yellow printer head with the self cleaning function. Try printing yellow from a computer, etc. Check ink level, make sure it is not telling you low ink.

Ink well cleaners

There is a design reason why the print heads are changed when you change an ink cartridge is changed. The print head isn't made to be reused and the quality of your print will suffer at some point if you reuse the same print head 6 or 7 times. I would get new cartridges and be happy with the print quality that a new cartridges will bring.

Brother mfc MFC-5440CN magenta issues

If you have used generic ink the head is clogged and cant be cleaned anymore.

Last chance is to use original brother ink which has cleaning fluids within the ink. Run the cleaning procedure twice and simply print 10 PAGES afterwards. Wait A DAY AND TRY TO PRINT IN MAG AGAIN:

If there will be no mag. the ph is definitley clogged and needs replacement.
