Mishwilly. If monitor will do same thing with different KNOWN GOOD pc, then monitor will need it's "switch-mode-power-supply" fixed. Could also need CCFL inverter circuit checked! Keyboard and mouse not working and monitor going to sleep

HP Pavilion Slimline S3400f Desktop.
dont worry ALL PC end up like this,, all do.. sooner or later..
NO OS stated, XP"? never post without OS stated, or answer get 10x more harder, See? make it easy for the helper and get more help.....
no Monitor stated. (maker, CRT, LCD what?)
The monitor is not fibbing to you BTW, the PC did go dead or to sleep. seems its monitor monitor of some kind with DVI.

if the monitor works on other PCs then the monitor is not bad.
i Bet it works (old ones 2002, have a hidden deep internal sleep mode. and is not yours IM sure now) DVI IS THE ONLY CLUE THERE.
So PC is dead. this PC came with only VISTA new,
is it still VISTA?????????
HP has support on it still
here (carbon dated by me 2008, IIRC)
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-slimline-s3400-desktop-pc-series/3688715/model/3688723

this year,? get all those files and books there backed up
when HP support ends after 10 year rule, (be savvy?)

what keyboard USB or wireless keyboard mouse
use wired USB keyboards if wireless the battery is dead. easy no?

now in VISTA, go to Control panel, click power
turn off all sleep modes and all hibernate modes
the turn off screen savers, if turned on , disktop . RC right click
in display settings or personalize, turn off , need login to come out of sleep or screen saver.
try a real keyboard, that has USB cable yet? be first thing to do.
always keep a real keyboard, handy,,,
batteries fail. in all wireless devices like this (inside them)

luck you desktops have lies DIM fails. there are many.

http://www.pcdied.com/sleep-or-dim.html

one other way , and common is PC overheated.
all do that.
ever one not cleaned out every year,.

#1 all time cause of overheat and PC shuts down.

My computer hp s3700f keeps going black or sleep. Mode

Hello

You can prevent the computer from going into sleep or hibernation mode by going to the CONTROL PANEL - POWER SETTINGS.

Once here, change the settings to High Performance.

You can also go into advanced properties and manually change all of the settings - including when the hard drives go to sleep (I set this to NEVER), when the monitor will go to sleep (again, I set to never).

The monitor will go into sleep mode, and when first booted up will not register anything and goes to sleep. Have tried re-booting, checking the chords, plugging and unplugging them in. To no avail it...

No pc stated just monitor. (not even desktop or laptop) stated.
no OS stated, ether.
so ill answer in wide generic ways....
all computer are a problem, since days of Mr. Allen Turning to now.
ive done 43years of them just puters.(and other big systems MIL)
no person on earth can answer that common question
gee no pc stated,! nor can we lay blame until its fixed can we. ever.

3+billions of transistors. mine here typing now.
4,800,000,000, and friends, lots of other things to fail even LCD
its not a toaster or 4 banger calculator, at all.
its COMPLEX but 1 of those 2 boxs or cable are bad. sure.
(viewed in the MACRO)

sleep? how do you know it is sleep.
the screen showed that. text said SPEEP?
is the screen totally dead. (that is not sleep if true)
is the screens OSD button dead?,
the only clue i have here is one word, REGISTER (good word just too few)
so the screen never ever shows any text or HP logo ever
booting with monitor on for 5min. power on PC, see words?
no text ever...so.

then push the monitors.
Select menu buttons on front of monitors. and the OSD pops does it , it must....!!! see image below (mine is Viewsonic, near new)

there are many simple tests here.
  • try you monitor on any other PC
  • or try you pc on any other monitor
easy no.?, just 1 or 2 tests and bam, who's bad.
called the process of elimination..
but OSD is first. no matter what,.

if the screen tests ok,, (display tests and its buttons)
then the PC is problematic, (1/2 the battle won)
the first thing to do (tell me what pC) but turn off all sleep
modes in the CONTROL PANEL + POWER SETTINGS>
do that first. if you can even get the screen to work.

A pc never boots to sleep so.....
the PC can have 2 VGA jacks on the rear.
the PC can have DVI jacks, using those are you
try them all yet?
if you test the PC and it works and the screen works the cable is bad.

omg that screen is new, its even sold now at walmart.
not cheap either, too much, kinda
this is a modern 22" screen, LED>
and do not just go bad, is the power pack there and correct?
if the OSD screen is dead, check power first.

this is the Monitors brain, it works even with the PC dead.

the button is marked menu or select. this is test1.
osd-1z31dkbg41o2owghj0fas5br-1-0.jpg on my monitor ,heck all 2004 up
it tells you SLeep mode when the PC goes to sleep mode
or shows Power saver mode. live on the screen.
screen power on first sure.

all ways to go black done here.

Why does my HP vs17 monitor screen keep going to blank black screen like it turned off but did'nt.....blue power button light is still on? Everything is running but no picture.....keeps happening everytime...

this old monitor has 2 issues.
1: it has CCFL tubes that love to burn out (backlamps)
most this old are long go, yell, dim.,blinking or DEAD.
2: push the menu button on front of mon. turn off power saver.

3: if the PC goes to sleep, or hibernete mode (parked)
then that is 100% normal
if you dont like feature then go to windows control panel
click power, ICON and turn off all monitor sleep /hibernate modes.

that assumes windows, no OS stated.

if the lamps are dead,
use flash light pointed to sceen, see data. ? bingo for bad CCFT tubes.
as seen here

Monitor going to sleep problem

  • Hi, The Monitor as well the Computer have "Power Saving Modes," [Sleep, ScreenSavers, and Hibernation]; so what you want to do is "Change the way the Computer / Monitor Sleeps!" From the Desktop Screen, click on the "Start Button," next in the [Start Search Window], type: power. In the next [window] that opens, you should see, from your point of view; a "list" in the (left column) "Change when the computer sleep, the wording may be different, but it will be clear enough. Now all you have to do is change the way the Computer and Monitor "Sleep, or Turn-off." If the Monitor have its own "settings;" just find them by the [button on the monitor], and do the same thing as above; but I'm sure the computer will take care of both. If this solution to the problem was of help? Let me know by giving a "Helpful Rating", thanks, and have a "Great Memorial Day!"

Sleep mode

Does the monitor go to sleep when you unplug the video cable? If so, then the computer is still sending a signal, if not, check the monitor menu settings for no signal settings.
