The small slot on the underside of the machine seems to be basically there to provide access to the manual opening lever (the white nub). That white nub popped the drawer open straight away for me. So now I have drawn an arrow on the underside to remind me which way to move the lever next time it happens! You can also move it the other way to get the disk to play. I also think you should never leave the machine without a disk in it - ejection of the empty drawer seems much harder for some reason. And possibly the ejection works better if you use the stop control on the remote instead of the eject button on the front of the machine.

Most likely the tension band that is attached to the mechanical parts of motor and the tray detached. you'll need to disconnect the power and unscrew the cover open and put the band back in place.

Unfortunately, what you're describing is a repair issue. You won't be able to address the problem with troubleshooting. There is a part inside the player that needs to be replaced. If you're under warranty, this will cost you nothing. If you're not under warranty the cost will likely be a minimum of $200 parts and labor. However, be warned that the cost could be considerably higher.
I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

SOURCE: Disc tray won't stay closed.
I fixed this by jerking the tray gently. Someone jammed my tray and it skipped a few gear teeth. It seemed like the machine couldn't pull it in far enough to reach its preset position. So I let it close and when it was almost closed, I gently jerked it out to skip the gear teeth back into alignment. It is kind of tricky because the motor will just reverse instead of skipping teeth (you'll hear the plastic clicking when it skips). Perhaps unplug it and slowly push it in manually then **** it back out softly. Just be gentle. Good luck.
