Some people have been doing this

Launch Internet Explorer
Click the Tools menu
Select Internet Options
Click the Connections tab
Click the LAN Settings button
Make sure that that "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox is unchecked
Click OK till you are out of everything, and then close Internet Explorer
Try again in iTunes to load the store
do a google search for "itunes error 306" for other discussion boards on the topic, seems to have occured after an itunes update conflicting with OS (go figure right?)...hope this helps =)

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

We could not complete your itunes store request. An unknown error occurred (306). please!

The 306 error is most commonly related to an Internet Connection problem. Make sure that iTunes is not being blocked by any sort of firewall or antivirus software that you have.

Okay, I found the solution when running CA Security Center for me. You need to open your Parental Controls - Advanced Settings. In the user/default tabs select Web Filters. The select "Custom List" under the allowed section. Then add the following sites individually: itunes.apple.com, ax.itunes.apple.com, albert.apple.com Be sure to select the checkbox to allow the entire domain. Then restart iTunes.

Hi,

this might be a connection problem generated by Internet Explorer.

Please follow these steps:
1) open Internet Explorer
2) open the menu Tools
3) change to tab Connections
4) click the button LAN settings
5) uncheck all checkboxes
6) leave the window by clicking OK
7) close Internet Explorer

Please restart iTunes and try again to open the store.

Hi,

This error can occur if you are not running the latest ITunes software or remove the SC Info folder. See support article from Apple for details on removing this SC info folder on your operating system: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1597

I cannot access the iTunes store. I get an itunes store: error -50

The following alerts may appear when trying to download purchased content from the iTunes Store:
"There was an error downloading your purchased music. An unknown error occurred (-50)." This can happen when the connection timeout occurs while downloading purchased content from the iTunes Store. Certain types of software may also affect the way a computer sends and receives information from the internet. Here are a few examples of these types of software:
  • Firewalls
  • Web Accelerators
  • Ad Filters
  • Virus Protection Software
try to disable them for a while when you download something from iTunes.

When i try to open iTunes a message pops up saying " the iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)

The only options for this error are for solving the problem of iTunes not opening, which are listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717

I suggest trying to re-install iTunes first, then go through the solutions on that page. Print off the page before you start trying to fix it, and include all sections (check in print preview).

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall your ITunes? It sounds as though your ITunes is corrupted.

If you come across any one of the above Error or Alert messages, then either your iPod/iTunes has gone corrupted and your iPod may be in for a crash or maybe you’re already facing an iPod crash. iPod might crash or get corrupt due to any of the reasons from hardware failure to corrupt iPod cache to damaged Files or to damaged disk structure.

You must be cautious and try to recover lost data from your iPod from reliable and proved software which is non-destructive and can recover all data—damaged or deleted. Any compromise can thwart your recovery process. Try Stellar Phoenix iPod Recovery Software.
