Battery won't charge even when green light is on.

    wont charge in the car.

  • Isharryf Dec 15, 2008

At home it charges fine, but in the car, the green light is on, but does not charge. I found out that if you ben/enforced the tt910 on the windshielddock a little it does switch to charging. But if you let go, it will easily stop charging. I looks like something is wrong with the connecting between the TT910 and the windshielddock.

My TomTom 510 will not hold charge and now cannot be switched on

If you are not bothered about using it on battery your tt should work if you have it hooked up to a external power supply such as the car charger or home charger. If it doesn't work using either of the power supplies then your problem is deeper than just needing a new battery. Check the pins on the bottom of your tt to see if they are bent, or out of place. The most common problem for them is the negative pin on the far left with the lcd screen facing away from you gets bent or is not making contact even though the green light is on.
Hope this helps

Will not take a charge

I have just the same problem. Initially the battery was flashing to say that it was low on charge even when it was plugged in, then it flashed that the battery was empty and switched itself off. When plugged in the green light comes on, but still cannot turn TomTom 710 on. Also it will not connect to the computer.

There is a reset button (hole) underneath by the plug-in bar. It is real small, you'll need a small paper clip straighten out

Will not charge

I have a similar problem and I think I solved it (orr found a way to work around it). It looks like the contacts are not connecting firmly so even though the green light may be on, the charging conneciton is not made. With the tomtom on your home dock from the front page on your tomtom, touch near the lower right of the screen on the satellite strength indicator, this should bring up a screen where it shows (among other things) your batter status at the top right. If it is charging, the word charging will be under the battery strength indicator. Just play with it until you get the word "charging" to appear under the picture of the battery.then HANDS OFF until it is charged. I doubt this will be successful with the car charger since the movement of the car will likely jar the connection loose. Good luck.
