Hi,
if the consoles still warranted, get it replaced or repaired.
Certain consoles use 2 different lasers. 1 for blueray and dvd. and 1 for games. Others have ways of switching power up and down. to enable different reading formats. i,m not sure of the PS3s backwards compatabilities. but you could try a PS2 game.
if it does,nt read that or any game. i,d suggest a laser read problem.
Hope this helps mike@Compurepair.

My playstation 3 will recognize a regular dvd but not a ps3 game or blue ray dvd

The PS3 uses a 3-part laser (cd, dvd, blu-ray)

The blu-ray portion of the laser has gone out. You can fix it yourself (65-80) Or you can get it serviced by Sony (150) OR you can find someone like a local Video Game store to fix it (100-120)

99% of the time the laser needs to be replaced.

The ps3 won't recognize that a game or blue ray is there

If your system doesn't recognize blue ray games or blue ray dvds but still plays normal dvds and music cds your lens is dirty. I had this problem and my factory and store warranty are up. I decided to take the machine apart and see what I could do.

If you look online there are several videos how to take the machine apart. I opened the machine up, took out the blue ray drive and opened up the drive. Once you remove the cover from the blue ray drive, take some rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip and clean the lens. I actually used my t-shirt to wipe it and blew on the lens and it did the trick. Before you assemble everything, plug the drive in and pop in a game to see if it works (or you will have to remove all the screws again.) This should solve your problem. If your drive doesn't recognize any media, your laser might be shot.

Once you tear into it and figure out how everything works your realize it's not very complicated. Otherwise you'll end up spending about 150 bucks for Sony to do the same thing.

My games will not play on my PS3. The PS3 does not even recognize the game.

Please check the format of the game. PS3 does not recognize some formats. Better play blue ray format games

The PS3 will not recognize games or movies. You load it and it will not show in up in the menu of options. It powers and shows the normal menu but does not recognize games or dvds regular or blue ray.

Wont recognize a disk

The lazer or the chip on the drive control board are faulty, give sony a call, their support line is very good, they may even replace your console even if its out of warranty(they did for me).
