Brother has great solutions for scanning if you use Linux: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/instruction_scn1a.html

Currently use this on an MFC-4800 and Ubuntu.

Good luck!

How do I use my x5495 to scan a resume and then to edit it with my Dell XP computer?

You'll need to scan the document with an OCR software package (Optical character recognition) that will recognize the letters themselves and transmit them to word processing application, such as Word for Windows. Most scanner packages come with some form of OCR utility, so check your installed software. You may already be set up!
Best of luck, William

I have a hp 1310 AIO Printer how do you scan documents to computer using such programmes as ms word

MS Word cannot open scanned documents to edit. You need to run a scanned document through an OCR program (optical character recognition program) which converts the scanned document into a text document. Then you open Ms Word and import or open this text document to edit or change the text.

How do I scan a document? I press scan and it asks me to wait and then nothing happens.

You didn't mention which machine is it for. Either way scanners need software listening on the computer side to accept scanned images.

So assuming that there are no hardware (including cables to PC) problems, you should check that proper driver and application software are installed. Re-installing is a good idea.

Good luck

pls. vote for better service... Thank you

I've lost my set up cd and although the printer and copyer work I cannot scan a document onto the computer.

Scanning a document to your computer may require the Lexmark OCR scan software which is only available in the installation disk. Try to contact Lexmark technical support to request for the installation disk. Thank you for choosing Lexmark.

  1. turn on your all-in-one printer and computer. Check the connections between the two machines.
  2. Step 2 Lift the printer’s document lid. Examine the scanning surface and the underside of the lid for dust and fingerprints.
  3. Step 3 Put the document you wish to scan face-down on the glass. Use the alignment markers to help you square up the object. These are usually found on the left-hand edge of the scanning area.
  4. Step 4 Close the printer’s document lid slowly so the document does not shift position.
  5. Step 5 Select a scan resolution. The higher the dpi (dots per inch) count, the sharper and more detailed the image.
  6. Step 6 Push the scan button. You may have to do this on the printer itself or on your computer.
  7. Step 7 Check the preview of your scan on your computer. Depending on your all-in-one printer and software, you may have to prompt your computer to display the preview for you.
  8. Step 8 Edit the image as it appears on your computer if you want to make changes. Your scanning software might let you enlarge, resize or otherwise manipulate the final product.
  9. Step 9 Accept the scan and save. Return the original document to a safe location.

I have got a DCP-110C printer, how do I scan a document onto the computer then alter the text within this document?

Try this procedure and let me know how it goes

  1. Scan the page you want to convert into a Microsoft Word document.
  2. Save the scanned image in *.gif, *.jpeg or whatever format.
  3. Open that image, go to "File->Save As" and name it "xyz.tiff" in the "TIFF" format as shown.
  4. Go to "Start->Programs->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Document Imaging"
  5. Go to "File->Open" and open your scanned document that has been saved in *.TIFF format.
  6. Go to "Tools->Send Text to Word." You will get a prompt stating this process will take time, Click OK. This will take some time depending on your computer's speed (a minute or two at the most).
  7. When it's done it will open up Microsoft word on its own and the scanned document will now be in editable mode.

Cannot edit scanned document

Hi,

its like this, the OCR or the SOftware installed in your computer is limited. If you're trying to scan a document which has a picture or with text that uses different fonts like monotype, or those that are not usually being use for normal documents, usually it wouldnt detect and it become distorted. Anyways, here are the steps that i want you to follow.

1. Open solution center. (click start, go to all programs, go to HP, then click on SOLUTION CENTER). or you can see SOlution Center on your Desktop.
2. Click on Scan Documents, then the Scan documents setting will open. Change the settings to these.
* SCAN TO: Microsoft Word.
3. Then, hit scan.
4. After scanning, the folder My Scans will open automatically, just go ahead and open the scanned document.
5. From there, you can start editing the text.

..remember, the scan a document is limited, it will not read all types of fonts. if the document is using a "times new roman" or "arial" the scanned document appears to be almost the same with the original. But, if the scanned document contains pictures or stylish fonts, that would make the document distorted.

Please let me know if you still have clarifications.

Thank you.
