Your solution didn't work. I held the HDD button down for at least a minute but nothing happened. I should add that I have been trying all the remedies in the manual for more than a week. I think I will have to give in and take this useless bit of gear to a dealer. Thanx for your effort anyway. Ken

Hi there,

Well the first thing to try is the format command but this will erase any saved programmes/data on your HDD and, as it may be a faulty sata cable anyway, you can access the format function by turning on the unit then when it's on (HDD Error flashing) press and hold the purple HDD button on the right of the unit for >10 secs, this should format the HDD and when complete switch itself off and reboot itself - if this works then it should display a channel number on the unit display. If further you have the same problem then there may be some fault in the HDD....... Please post comments for more help or information.......

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Sony dvd recorder as hdd error

try replacing the red sata cable which runs from the HDD under the DVD drive to the main board on the right-hand side. these are a common problem on these models, there cheap and unreliable. you can purchase a better quality cable from a computer store for little money. HDD ERROR is'nt necessery an HDD fault as i found out with my rdr-hx525. if however the HDD is faulty and you buy a replacement, once installed you will need to pair the new HDD with the unit by entering the service mode by unplugging the AC then while holding down open/close and play together then re-insert the AC lead while still holding open/close and play and wait until you see an "S" in the display then let go and the service mode will appear on the tv screen. go to no.9 HDD mode, press enter then go to no.3 Write ID then it will say "execute write ID?" yes and press enter and then it will say "writing HDD serial ID.... OK" once this is done, exit the service mode by keeping your finger on the power button for approx 10secs. your DVD recorder should now recognise the new HDD. if you don't follow this process, you will still have an HDD error message as your DVD recorder will have your old HDD installed and won't recognise your new one. given the amount of time since you posted this fault, you may still have the unit in question in which case i hope this solution is helpful, or for anyone else with the same problem.

I have a Funai HDR-B2735 dvd/video cassette recorder with HDD. When turning the machine on, it automatically switches off with the screen displaying the message "System error 02/56" before going...

Exact same symptom as above, little flashing "W" on standby, error code 02-56 on switching the unit on, promptly turns itself off. It would help no end if Funai would publish a little bit more info about these error codes on their site, or have a forum somewhere. Gona try a factory reset and a replacement HDD, dont know if i could replace it with a new one or not. any ideas or experience with these errors would be greatly appreciated!
