There's grease on the platter is that to help the belt

phono lube should only be on the center piviot point ,if it gets anyplace else its gonna cause a slip in the drive system , the spot where belt rests should be clean and dry ,in fact ive used a pinch of corn starch on it to help preserve the rubber into lasting longer on some of rare juke boxes as the belts are custom made 4 them, but this is purely optional as you don't need it

Getting drive belts is easy, fitting them is the problem. If it is still attached in any way make a note or a photo of how it is fixed. This will help to putting a new one on. Measure the diameter of the old belt in mm. You will also need to measure the thickness in mm too. Then put these words into Google: "Turntable Belt xx mm" (use the diameter measurement in place of the XX). Then search the results looking for something that is very close to your belt. If you find the belt, try searching again for the fitting of it. Quote the model number of the turntable. The fitting instructions might even be found on this site.

Where to get parts for a late 60's model Magnavox Astro-Sonic Hi-Fi Cabinet?

I might try radio shack for a belt, and if you here a motor run but table doesnt turn, that is probably what you need to replace. many of these can be lifted out of the cabinet enough to get to things

Anybody you know who restore turntables?

Most turntables require a new drive belt. The cartridge sometimes needs replacing. Cahngers require much more maintenance. Hardly anybody does this anymore... but if belt has deteriorated, that is DIY as you can find suppliers of the belt online.

AIWA LX 70 TURNTABLE THE BELT THAT MOVES THE ARM TO THE RECORD IS BROKEN. WHERE CAN I BUY ANOTHER ONE, AND IS IT EASY TO FIT

Hi jun_tradjazz,

I have an LX 70. There are two drive belts. They are identical and of a standard size, ie., not specific to Aiwa, Quite few years ago these belts wore out on my deck. They became smooth and the pulley wheels began to slip. I was lucky that a local electronics shop in town (Belfast,NI) had spares and replaced them "off the shelf". Sadly they can't do that now.

There are specialist retailers on the net who provide all sorts of drive belts of this type. The trick is to find the spec! Perhaps, if you contact them, they might be able to match a new belt with one of the belts on your machine.

From memory, replacing the belts is fiddly, but not very difficult if you are patient and examine the mechanism carefully.

Although I now use a Rega Planar 3 with motor upgrade and a Rega Exact stylus , I still love the magic of the LX-100 and cannot bear to part with it. A beautiful piece of design with it's link to the Strathean Audio (a Belfast HI-fi company, now defuct) direct drive system that it employs.

Good luck with your search.

My cr249 model record player is turning on, but not spinning. it's been working fine until today, what do i do?

The chances are that the drive belt has either broken or come off the pulleys on the underside of the turntable platter and the motor.
You will need to access the underneath of the turntable to do this.
How you do so varies from one model to another - some you can just lift the top plate off the wooden base, others you will have to turn the whole thing upside down and unscrew the bottom.
With some turntables you lift off the rubber mat from the platter to expose a couple of little holes through which you can access the drive system.
If the belt has not actually broken you should be able to put it back onto the pulleys. However, the fact that it has come off indicates that the belt has stretched and you should replace it. There are plenty of suppliers on the internet (Amazon is usually worth a try) where replacements can be found

Whats is the drive belt?

Here is one source. Scroll down to see the part numbers and prices. Your turntable can use either the FBL23.6 or the FTBM23.6. The FBL23.6 is slightly wider. If you are outside of the US, you can use the dimension information to help you find a belt from a supplier in your area.
