Question about Microsoft Xbox Console
I am guessing that you are connecting your xbox to your computer for an internet connection. If yes, then you can not use just any ethernet cable to connect it to your computer, you have to use what is called a "crossover cable". This type of cable has 2 wires that are in different positions than a regular ethernet cable. If you were to connect your xbox directly to your router or modem, you would use a regular ethernet cable. If you are already using a crossover cable, then you have not set up your ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) correctly on your computer. Worthy of mention is also that you need to use "port forwarding" to open ports for a non-strict connection with xbox live. I hope this helps you, if you have further questions regarding this issue, feel free to ask.
