Question about HP Officejet Pro K5400 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Sounds to me that the black print head needs to be cleaned.

More than likely you have a problem with your print head and not your cartridge. If you are using an aftermarket cartridge, it could cause this problem. It could have dried out, got clogged up or a piece of jammed paper might have become stuck on the print head. Run the cleaning cycle and the feature that will prime a new ink cartridge (this is included in your HP software) a few times. When you replace a cartridge it will have to be primed. Otherwise the print head requires replacement

Sounds it’s the case of air bubble in cartridge. You need to know if the chip on the bottom of the cartridge in a small recess was reset or replaced. If it was then you need to check if there is an air bubble trapped in the egress hole (where the ink comes out of the cartridge and into the printer, small silver circle on bottom) The label can be sliced on one side where the two parts of the cartridge body meet and then flipped to one side. Pull out the ink bad and frame, carefully. Do not rupture the bag, and look to see if there is an air bubble in the tube that stands up. If there is you can use a syringe and needle to draw it out. You may now also have an air bubble in your supply line that may need purging, save that for the pros if this doesn't fix you problem.

Try Cleaning the Cartridges manually and automatically.
For the cartridge clean it with a damp lint free cloth and also for the printheads wher eyour gonna be inserting the cartridges.
Follow these steps do do the automatic aligning and cleaning:
Click Start and then go to Printers and Faxes (XP), Printers(Vista), Devices and Printers(Win 7)
1. Right Click on your printer Icon 2. Go to Printing Preferences 3. Click the Features Tab 4. At the bottom of the window you will see Printer Services or Device Services. Click on it. 5. Choose Align Printheads on the list.
For Cleaning the Printheads, Instead of choosing Align Printer choose Clean Printheads.

SOURCE: Black ink not printing properly
The print head may be blocked.
Run the cleaning cycle a few times on the machine.
This can be done through the software drivers loaded on your computer.
If this does not help, you will need to replace the black print head.
