Sure the cog can be replaced, but it's best done by a service technician as you may lose zoom registration between both sides of the binocular if you try to do it yourself. Then you will end up with one side at 7X and the other at 10X and a big headache to boot.

How do I get the lens barrel to slide smoothly?

The lens you seem to be referring to is the14-42mm.these were the basic consumer kit lens and has a tendency to allow dust and debris to enter via the rear element/ mount.this is relatively easy to access and need to have a small Philips screwdriver some QTips and a fine paintbrush or blower.whilst the lens is facing down on flat surface...remove the four screws that hold the mount to the lens body.remove the electrical contact strip have to be careful and slot the electric contact through past rear mount whilst gently lift up the mount so as not to break the ribbon should see a small metal cog on pin .check slot position when zoom is closed..then this can be removed and inspected for sand and dust particles.brush anything off the cogs.inspect the internal cog ring whilst turn zoom slowly for any debris.clean and remove any particles.reinsert cog after you zoom closed and return cog to correct position.check if the zoom is now smoother.feed electrical contact back through rear mount re screw.always keep rear cap on lens when not in use.never travel to beach environments as you will most certainly introduce sand into the mechanism.if the lens is still jumpy then it is likely debris has entered within the deeper mechanics of the zoom mechanism.this is much more fiddly to do ...I think YouTube has some strip down tutorials on similar lens.good luck!

Hitachi VM-3100a nakes a whirring noise and does nothing when zooming in.

Its probably cheaper to buy another of these old cameras on ebay, than it is to repair the cogs/drive mechanism that is fiddly to work on.

Cant find a zoom button on my samsung PL221 10 x

That's because it's not a button. It's the ring around the shutter release button. There's a little grip at the front of the ring. Push it one way to zoom out, the other way to zoom in. See the illustration on page 13 of the manual.

Panasonic SD5 won't focus after being dropped. Have turned it off and on...removed battery etc. Got message to reset, have done that several times. It will record but only very blurry unrecognizable...

The zoom/lens opening mechanism runs on a series of cogs and gears. Usually made of plastic.

If you've dropped it, one of these cogs has probably slipped a tooth or two rendering the camera unusable.

The panasonic website support may off some advice, as would a retailer/repairer.

You could try yourself, its fiddly and loads of little bits and you'll be working without a manual.

If you do go for professional repair, get a quote and check out the cost of a replacement camera first, they're often un-economical to repair.

Launch your logitech toolbar -
Open Quick Capture ( 2 film frames)
Open settings ( 2 gear cogs ) adjust zoom slider - you may also have a focus ring around the lens of the camera as well

In camera mode, the zoom icon is grayed out and I can't zoom the picture. I'm not finding any instructions on settings for zoom.

the zoom funtion doesn't work at 1600x1200 resolution, you will have to change it to a small setting in the little cog icon when the camera is activated

Machine does not agitate, will spin and rinse including.

Hi,does the top part of the agitator move freely when you move it by hand?Or does it catch,if it does not catch the the cogs other wise known as dog ears are worn out.Do not believe the little cogs that catch inside the top part of the agitator can be replaced. You may have to replace the whole agitator unit on some models they are around 40.00.
