Hi The answer to this is twofold

You can remove the SD Card and place it in a card reader and up and down load your photos.

To overcome your non recognition, I will assume that it dis at one time allow you to connect?

DO NOT CONNECT CAMERA TO PC

Step 1

START CTRL PANEL SYSTEM Seloect the network card by Right click. PROPERTIES update network card.Windows will spend some time dithering around looking for the driver. It will eventually say that the driver you have is the latest one.

STEP2

Go to ADD and Remove ( XP) or the utility that is the same on Vista.

Remove the software for Nikon.

Reinstall The Nikon Disk.

Reboot the PC

STEP 3

Connect the USB cable and the camera.
Windows should now discover new hardware and advise you that it is now ready for use.

Well the Kodak cord may fit, but the pinouts are completely different to the coolpix.

You need to obtain the correct cord for the job.

There is generally an SD card supplied with the camera, if it's not inserted then you are using the internal memory to store pics. This will limit the numbert of pics you can take.It also requires the doenloade cord to retrieve them with no SD card to copy to

I suggest you visit a camera store with the nikon cord that does not seem to fit and check that it is also the correct one as they vary between models in the shape and size of the mini USB.

Better to buy the correct cord and save all the frustration and guess work of why it is not being recognised.

My nikon coolpix L20 quit connecting to my computer..

Try it on another computer to see if the issue still happens.
-If you have a printer that is compatible with the camera try that too. (Ref user guide page 62. Second ref link)

If the issue still happens use another USB cable.

If the issue still happens with a another USB cable then the USB port on the camera may be no longer working.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as iPhoto, Windows Photo Gallery, and Nikon Transfer.

You can't. It's a camera designed to record pictures and videos, not stream them live to a computer.

Coolpix L20 usb cable will not work

The cable itself might be to blame. You should hope so, since the alternative is not good news. These cables are pretty much standard and available in any Radio Shack or Best Buy.

If that doesn't work (and you can return the cable if that's the case), I would recommend getting a cheap card reader rather than using the camera and cable to import your photos. Your camera takes SD and SD-HC cards. To be safe, you should be sure to get a card reader that can accept SD-HC cards (not all of them can).

With a card reader, it's even easier and faster to import photos. You insert your memory card into the reader, which attaches via USB on your computer, and it shows up just like a disk drive. then drag and drop your photos where you want them.

How can i use my nikon l20 as webcam also

You can't. It's designed as a still camera with limited video capabilities. Any videos go to the memory card or internal memory. It's not intended as a webcam.
