Question about IBM ThinkPad T23 2647 Notebook

I recently installed Windows XP Pro on my T23 in addition to Windows 2000 Pro. I can not get the audio to work when in XP. It works fine in Win2K. Tried to download new audio drivers from IBM site. Did not find one that works. Regards, MM

    Did download and intalled this file before. Reinstalled it again. No errors during installation but no audio either. mm

    In "Device Manager", under 'Sound, video and game controllers' there is a lkist of 7 items - none with yellow question-exclamation mark. They are Audio Codecs, Intel 82801 Audio Controlers, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, USB Audio Devices and Video Codecs.

    There are yellow Q-mark under 'Other Devices'/Unknown device and /Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

    No sounds

    Tried both suggestins to eliminate yellow Q-mark without success. But, frankly, this does not bother me much because it is no taudio problem.

    I tried suggestions from that helparticle and still - no sound. If I boot with Windows 2k, sound is OK. I need it to work with XP because I have some applications which work only with XP and up.

    Again, my Thinkpad is an old version: T23 2647 - QU6 if that can help.

You can download the audio drivers for Windows XP operating system from the manufacturer's website by clicking this link. Follow the installation instructions on the page which opens.

If you have already tried this driver and if it is not working, please let us know further details like any error message you receive during installation. Also, open the Device Manager and let us know the status of "Sound Drivers" (Any yellow colored exclamation mark against it)

Also, tell us the complete model number of the laptop so that we can provide you with more details.

    Please open the Device Manager and let us know the status of Sound Drivers. To open the Device manager, right-click on "My Computer" icon on the Desktop, select "Properties", then click on the "Hardware" tab. Now click the "Device Manager" button. A list of all the installed hardware will now open. Click on "Sound Video and Game Controllers". A Yellow Exclamation mark against any of the devices signifies a driver problem. Kindly let us know the findings.

    Thanks for the reply.

    The yellow question mark denotes that either the driver is not installed or there is some hardware problem with the devices (VGA and Other device/unknown device.)

    You can download and install the VGA (Video) from this link.

    Regarding the "Other Device/Unknown device", right-click on the Other device/unknown device, then select update driver. Then Windows will download and install the update the driver automatically.

    Let us know the status after driver update. Thanks once again.

    Yes, you are right. Missing video(VGA) driver is not related to this audio issue, but the "Unknown Device" might be some hardware related to this issue.

    Kindly check the sound settings from the control panel. To open the Control Panel, click on Start button, then select "Control Panel". In the Window which opens, click on "Switch to Classic View". Then double-click on "Sounds and Audio Devices". Click on the "Volume" tab, then click "Advanced" tab and see that no component is muted and also that the slider buttons are set to the highest volume.

    Then, click on "Voice" tab and click "Test Hardware". Follow the prompts of the test wizard and let us know the findings after completing the test.

I do not use an automatic driver detection program, because they have a tendency to install the wrong drivers.

I look in Device Manager, and use the driver that matches THAT device, the O/S used, and is the newest version, (Date), with all the bugs worked out from an older version.

For your laptop that would be;

Ethernet Driver for Intel PRO/100 VE LAN that is the 49675 version, and has the date of November 8, 2002,

Did you install the Linksys WLAN monitor to manage the wireless settings? If not, I'm afraid that you won't be able to configure the wireless settings on your 2000 computer without the Linksys WLAN monitor installed.

Standard vga driver

it depends on what os you are installing if you are installing windows xp, all pre 2000 graphics card dont usualy need drivers in windows xp, if its not asking for drivers you maybe have to install them manualy

Sansa e 250 wont work with windows 2000!

Hello. I just bought my e250 last week and I am running Win2k. I was aware of its system requirement for Win XP, but I have been able to use the player successfully. I you set the player USB mode to MSC under Settings and make sure your window explorer is set to view hidden files and folders, you will have access to drop and drag music like normal files. I found other suggested at this Sandisk forum as well:

EMachine W3052 with FIC K7MNF-64 Mobo

I did just solve all my problems with my own FIC K7MNF-64

Stop error: 0x0000007b / may be caused by attempting to load XP HOME

I've not determined exactly why attempting to load XP Home will cause
error 0x0000007b on the FIC K7MNF-64 , but it does , and it's a situaion not covered in the microsoft artical on it.

From what I can gather XP pro was the offical operating sytem for the board which I've now loaded to mine , windows 98/ME can load to it without problem so that rules out a hardware issue on my end.

eMachine T3395 or W3050 shipped with the FIC K7MNF-64 in them.

Drivers can still be obtained from eMachine for the board as of 8-26-2008
but for XP pro only from what I can see. you may need to hunt around for
98/ME drivers , even if you manage to get 98/ME drivers you will most likely still have a PCI Universal Serial Bus issue so best to load XP pro if possible. biggrin.gif

I hope this information saves some people alot of time.

How to make smartcard logon as default logon for windows

Using smart cards with Windows 2000/XP is a two-fold problem.

First, you need to have the card manufacturer's Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP) installed. For Windows 2000/XP, the Schlumberger and Gemplus CSPs are installed and using a "Win2K Compatible" card from either of these vendors does not require the installation of additional software.

The second part to the involves getting a certificate in the correct format onto the card. Assuming you are refering to PKINIT, you will need to have a card with only a single certificate that follows Microsoft's "Smart Card Logon" profile. Additionally, you will need to do some configuration on the Active Directory side to make it work.
