Question about Mitsubishi VS-60703 60" Rear Projection Television
1.) It is a 1998 model--it may or may not have the self check feature. When it shuts off press both the Menu and Input buttons on the front of the set for at least 5 seconds and release both--if it has the self check the power light should blink an error code--most common is 2, a pause and 2, and it will repeat the error several times.
2.) Do a visual look at the front few inches of all the boards (there is an inspection plate on the front behind the speaker cloth grill). Look for any signs of Glycol; it is a coolant used to cool the face of all three tubes and these sets have a history of it leaking out and getting on the circuit boards.
If you see it--it is a clear liquid and VERY TOXIC--do not touch it. It will short things out and solder connections or parts will be discolored or look like coroaded metal. Sometimes it will be white looking or like model airplane glue.
If you find signs of this it is the end of the set as you would not only have to clean it away and repair all damage it has done but you would also have to remove whichever picture tube or tubes is leaking and reseal them etc.
Let me know what you find--I have seen a lot of these with Glycol problems--use a flashlight and look carefully.

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that this might have happened due to over-voltage. Please check the power supply unit for swollen/bulged capacitors and burnt wires/components on the power supply board of the TV. The reason it wont turn on could also be due to the power supply going bad and you might have to replace the board completely. Please make sure to turn off and unplug the TV for at least 1 hour (this will drain off current from all components especially capacitors) before you perform any repairs. Also note that the TV consists of very high voltages even when it is in OFF condition. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
