Hi,

I'm not sure if you hope to rescue your files and documents but a system restore disk won't do this, it will wipe you hard disk and return it to factory default. therefore you could just start again with any copy of windows XP. You'll need driver disks but you can download them from the gateway website. you can get an XP disk cheaply on ebay.

How to reset to factory gateway sx 2801-07e

Tap F2 as the computer is booting and that should put you into the Restore commands. If not, use Windows Explorer to see if it has a partition with the operating system install files on it. If not, you may need a disk like this unless Gateway will supply you one.

Trying to restore os

Tap F1 when booting, to enter the BIOS Setup utility, and make your CD/DVD drive the first boot device. However, I'm not sure you need to put the system disk in to restore. This machine may have a hidden restore partition. Try this. Remove the disc, and invoke your restore by pressing F11 when booting, and follow the on-screen instructions. I try to do a full factory Restore on a Gateway SX2110G but it says that there is files missing and that I need a restore disk and this system didn't come with any.

When trying to upgrade to a higher OS version and it fails this can also cause many issues throughout the restore that is in the machine when you get a new machine it is always advantageous to make a hard copy of the restore incase things of this nature happen. there are many ways in which you can correct this (provided that te main backup is not damage, should have a restore partition).

gateways support area is located here:
http://support.gateway.com/product/?cmpid=supportnav

The other alterative to get this back to factory restore if the above partition is damaged is to obtain a new physical copy from Gateway themselves.

I have a gateway 300s cel and I had a small house fire my recovery disk is missing and I am having a problem and need a restore disk -- can anyone help

Techguru2009: You need to contact the manufacturer with your system model and specs. They might charge you a fee to have the restore disk shipped to you if you have the part number and serial number. Otherwise you need to reinstall the operating system.

It sounds like you need to reinstall the driver for the Realtek network interface card (NIC). I recommend accessing the Gateway web site to find the model number of the laptop, and then download the driver for the Realtek NIC. This should restore the functionality.

Gateways website, should have a full set of these disks, that you can purchase for about 20 bucks. Also, try browsing google, to see if there is a website where you can download the .iso file that you can then burn onto a blank disk(s)

Hard drive not working properly

What is the original OS? If it's XP you can't install 98 over the top of it without formatting it to FAT32 first.
