Question about Onkyo HT-SR800 System

Tivo HD will not record when Onkyo HT-SR800 is off

When hooked up via HDMI cables, my Tivo HD will not record. Cable TV line goes from the wall to the Tivo. HDMI connection must cause some feedback?? I can't imagine I have to leave the system on 24/7 to get my recordings!! I posted this problem on the Tivo's forum site also, as their tech support has no idea. Hoping someone here knows what to do.

I have a similar problem. When the HT-SR800 is off, eventually the tivo seems to go into some other mode and lose programming, and reboots the next time I turn on the Onkyo receiver. I haven't been able to predict just when this happens.

Bypassing the A/V justs adds another remote. The A/V is designed to control all the inputs. Tivo sent a new box, but it made no difference. It looks like I'm going to switch out all the HDMI for component cables.

Do you want to run all your cables thru the receiver? There really is no benefit for you to do this since that receiver doesn't handle HDMI audio nor do any kind of component to HDMI conversion. Might as well connect your tivo box directly to the TV with HDMI. You'll have to switch inputs on your TV between the cable box, but its not a big deal.

No sound with ps3, connected to a 7.1 av receiver & projection tv

Hi...the HT-R800 Home Theater system has the HT-R550 receiver which could only carry Video via HDMI. you would need to connect a separate audio cale(Optical Audio Cable) to be able to get audio out of the PS3 to the receiver. Once you have hooked up an Optical Audio Cable you would need to go in the PS3 setup and putin Bitstream and Optical in the Audio Setup menu.

No surround sound on ps3

Set the sound out put on ps3 to the optical out put then set sound on ps3 to give you dolby digital, dts, aac etc.

PS, do not set the hrtz range above 100 as this can damage your speakers.

hope this helps.

Dvd connection

Yes! You can pass the video signal through the receiver. This is most useful when you have more than one video device (e.g. DVD, cable box, VCR,...), and you can use the receiver to switch to the audio and video for the selected source at the same time.

On the back of your Onkyo HT-SR800 there is a section labeled "Component Video." It has three inputs and one output. So, attach your DVD by component cables to the "DVD In" and then attach component cables from the "OUT" receiver connection to the TV.

If your TV doesn't have a component connection, then this addresses your other question. You can't gain anything with this, because your TV doesn't support it. Connect the DVD to the TV according to the highest quality connection that they both support, in this order: composite, S-Video, component.

If you are using composite, but they both handle composite, than yes, you will get a better picture by going to component (or even S-Video). If both devices support progressive scan, this could be a substantial difference.

Your receiver accepts component, s-video and component video, but keep in mind, it may not do "video switching." So if you connect the DVD in via component, but go out to the TV over composite, then you may not get any video at all (but feel free to try). Try to avoid this, but you may be forced to try depending on the limitations of the various devices that you are hooking up.

Video disappears within 30 seconds

Hi Mark

I am going to take a stab in the dark here...

Did you plug the hdmi from the receiver to hdmi via the monitor hdmi output? this is needed so when you change the device on the receiver ie. between setop box and dvd the monitor changes with it accordingly.

You may also need to go to the setop box to set it to use hdmi output at the right frequencies too..ie. 720p 1080i or 1080p.Also set it so it only sends the picture via hdmi but audio still with optical out.

good luck
