Re: I can't use HDD sata on mainboard ASUS P5RD1-VM
Things need to be turned on in your bios patrohi. This is why windows didn't boot to the SATA. You need to use your manual & make sure the, Serial ATA Controller is [Enabled]
Within the Advanved menue under SouthBridge Configuration.
At the Main menue the SATA drive should be listed.
Boot settings need to change as well. At Boot Settings Configurations. Make sure your SATA drive is listed.
Boot order should list like, Floppy 1st, CDROM 2nd, SATA 3rd. The SATA will not list as a SATA but the model number of the SATA drive. Once all these settings are set save & exit. Your drive should show up for work & the windows CD should load.

Boot from CD rom hit F6 when prompted and install sata driver. then you should be good 2 go. If your using a sata cd rom, swap it for a a ide during o/s install then reinstall after o/s install is complete also enable sata in bios 1st as well. I had the same board with a pent D 3.0 that clocked to 4.122 with OCZ ram.
great board but old usb 1 sata 1.5 ..

The Windows installation CD does not have a SATA driver. You need a SATA driver of a floppy disk or turn off SATA native driver in the BIOS.
Please click on this link and follow my instructions on how to Install Windows on a SATA hard drive :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r4335035-installing_windows_xp_sata_hard_drive I suggest you install SP3 (service pack 3) rather than SP2, it contains the latest bug fixes. The SP3 cannot be installed from a floppy, it can be downloaded from Microsoft, it is a large file approx 300Mb, I suggest you install it from a CD if you can borrow one.
You need to install the SATA drivers that belog to your specific motherboard.
When you are installing Windows thru your Windows CD, there is a moment at teh beginning of the process that you will be asked to press F6 if you want to install 3rd party drivers.
That is your call.
Once the SATA drivers are installed, you will be able to continue with your Windows installation.
If you're using a scsi card and connecting the hard drive to the card you need to have the scsi set-up floppy disk. When the blue screen starts during windows installation watch the bottom of the screen. It will tell you to press F6 key then to insert the floppy disk.
If you're using a sata drive connected directly to the motherboard (not in a raid configuration) you shouldn't need anything but the windows disk. The motherboard drivers and utilities disk should have the files to create the scsi install disk.
Hi rafiqbrush, let me go over a few things for the P5B MB. There is a total of 5 serial ATA SATA drive ports on the board & one ATA IDE/PATA port. The 4 main SATA ports are numbered, 1 - 4. Your primary SATA drive must be connected to SATA port 1. Your second SATA drive must be connected to SATA port 3. See page 2-26 in your manual. All SATA drives are seen as master drives. Once the two SATA drives are connected (As per manual), boot to the bios main menu. At the main bios menu make sure your bios shows both SATA drives. Than go to the bios title "Boot". Make sure your primary SATA drive 1 is listed in the boot order. Save & exit the bios. (SATA drive 1 must have windows installed on it). Good luck rafiqbrush! Thank you for using fixya. Mike
