Installing the game on the hard drive reduces the latency from the CD/DVD Rom reading to the processor.

If you install it to the hard drive, the game will play and load faster since it's already on the drive.

From the disc drive, it's got to go to the hard drive and to the memory and to the processor and back out to the user. That and hard drives generally run a lot faster than a DVD drive.

Hi my name is chris and I have a game that I bought last year and i am 11 years old. when i got this there was no scratches but when my family was moving and i was at school at that time my brothers were...

It is possible that your game is scratched up enough that you can't play it directly on your xbox 360... BUT you might still be able to play it is you can save it to your Xbox 360 hard drive. You might need to try it a few times to get it to read and work but try following these instructions for installing the game from your CD directly onto your Hard drive. You will still need to have the CD in your Xbox 360 to play but it will be reading from your hard drive if you can install it. Good luck:

To install a game on your hard drive loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation');
  1. Insert the game disc into the disc drive.

    Note After you insert the disc, the default option is to automatically start the game. If this happens, exit the game and return to the Xbox Dashboard.
  2. From the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox.
  3. Select the game you want to install.
  4. Press the Y button on your controller.
  5. Select Install to Hard Drive.
  6. A progress indicator appears while your game is being installed on your hard drive.

  2. From the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox.
  3. Select the name of the game you want to play.
Note The game disc must be in the disc drive, even though you have installed the game on your hard drive. The console will automatically play the game from your hard drive, but the disc has to be present.
To delete a single game from your hard drive loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation');
  1. Insert the game disc for the game you want to delete from your hard drive.
  2. Go to My Xbox, and then select the game you want to delete.
  3. Press the Y button on your controller.
  4. Select Delete from Hard Drive.
To delete multiple games from your hard drive loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation');

My 360 will let me play a little bit of a game at a time. after playing maybe 5 or ten min or so it will freeze up. the last two times that it froze up it asked me two clean the disc, or contact xbox3660...

You specify the xbox 360 do you know what year model you have? If it as earlier model then likely you are running into system instability with many reasons for the error being possible.

Does the error only appear with one particular title or across your game library?

If it is just one game then attempt to install the game onto your hard drive and play the game after that. To install the game onto your hard drive you will need to do the following:

Install Xbox 360 games on your hard drive from a game disc Note Installing an Xbox 360 game on a hard drive requires between 4 and 8 gigabytes (GB) of free disc space.
  1. Insert the game disc into the disc drive.

    Note After you insert the disc, the default option is to automatically start the game. If the game starts, exit the game, and return to the Xbox Dashboard.

  2. From the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox.
  3. Select the game you want to install.
  4. Press Y on your controller.
  5. Select Install to Hard Drive.

    A progress indicator appears while your game is being installed on your hard drive.
Notes
  • Installing an Xbox 360 game might take several minutes.
  • Multidisc game? Install each disc to your hard drive.

My drive is making a grinding noise. What do I do?

Welcome to FixYa

Noise coming from the hard drive is an indication that the drive is about to fail. The best thing you can do at this point is to back up all of your data on that hard drive before it fails

Need to install new hard drive, but want to keep game saves etc. Do I install drive and simply use transfer cable to retrieve dat from old drive?

That's exactly what you do. Once you transfer the information, it will no longer be on the old hard drive. In other words, it will move the information, not copy.

For more information, check Microsoft 360 Support website at the following page:

Hello, not sure if this helps, but if you're using a usb-connected keyboard + mouse, then try using directly-connected ps2 kbd and mouse. Regards, nicam49

Used laptop hard drive in a playstation 3

Forget trying to have both things on the one drive, it's a non-starter. I believe the PS3 formats it itself, and it's not exactly the place to be putting your system files at risk. Hard drives are CHEAP! Get another one. It should match the PS3's original HDD specifications for current (Amps) used and RPM (5400 I believe). Otherwise you're likely to have problems with heat and reliability.

The New Update Install To Hard Drive feature

The disc basically acts as a key to start the engine (GAME) otherwise you could just go rent or borrow games from friends and not pay for them, however the game still plays %100 from hard drive. Also if you take the key out, the engine will turn off.
