Question about Transtherm Refrigerators

Open Question

Temperature settings don't work.

I have a Transtherm Bastide and have never been able to make the temperature settings work. My home is in Sullivan County, New York, about 120 miles northwest of New York City. Does anyone know of someone who could come to my house and make the refrigerator work right?

Try to defrost the unit, if it wont work check the air vents if air is present. Check also if some of your stuff may be obstructing the air vent.

SOURCE: GE Profile Refrigerator PFS22SISBSS Bottom Freezer Temperature Indicators

I finally called GE about the non-working LED's and the temperature fluctuation. It's a known problem as many consumers have posted online. I called 800-386-1215 several times. What I found is I'd get different menu options nearly each time I called. The way I got to a 'helpful' human follows: Call above number; you will/may here a voice that states only 'for recalled appliances press 9' (may also have options for repair or parts) PRESS 0; next menu PRESS 5; you'll hear 'for less than 1 yr old press 1' and 'for more than 1 yr press 2'. In my case I pressed 2, then got a menu with 'for refrigerators PRESS 2'. Spoke to a woman who never denied that GE has a motherboard problem. She offered to provide a free motherboard but no labor. I asked (to be sure) if I would have to pay labor, she said yes or I could have $400 off a new crappy GE fridge. She said I would have to have a repairman come to diagnose the problem, then order the part and then come back to repair. I then said, 'You're telling me that I have to pay for TWO service calls to repair a known GE defect???? How much should I expect to pay for these TWO service calls???' She then asked me to hold, then came back on the line and told me that GE would pay the labor for the repair.
I also asked if GE was willing to do anything about the 25 cent door latch that cracked after 11 months (and is attached to the door gasket a $228.00 part) or the rusting wire freezer baskets and was told no. Hey, worth a try! The fact that they said no ensures that I will continue on my crusade to warn anyone who'll listen not to buy GE! Keep calling, after I got the right menu the wait was short the whole call was less than 15 minutes.

If there is absolutely NOTHING working it is very likely a fuse has blown. Everything that electricity runs through should have been made with a fuse or breaker. The fuse prevents a hot wire from getting too hot and catching everything on fire.
The website states the units have a two year warranty. The phone number to the company is listed as (02) 9360 3199. I was not able to locate a manual for your unit so if you choose to check for a blown fuse unplug the unit first. Electrical devices can hold a charge AFTER being unplugged and electrocute you such as TV sets, so unless you have some experience I would not poke around inside with any metal items or touch things I was unsure of. If you are a curious person such as myself, the fuse "should" be somewhere near where the cord enters the unit. If you find that is the problem, hook it back up to a surge protector instead of plugging it directly into the wall to help prevent another blown fuse. Hope this helps.

Can't increase the heat on the thermostat

Instructions1 On nearly every Honeywell thermostat, the heat setting can be increased by simply pressing the HEAT option or AUTO and using the arrow keys to adjust the setting higher or lower until the desired temperature is reached.
2 To set an automatic heating schedule for Wake, Leave, Return and Sleep, press the SCHEDULE button, then EDIT.
3 Select the current day and use arrows to select the time and temperature for Wake. For example, if you typically awake for work at 6:00 a.m. and want the heat to come on, use that as your Wake time and adjust the temperature to suit.
4 Select the day and use arrows to select the time and temperature for Leave. Since you will be leaving the home empty for several hours, this setting will allow the thermostat to lower the heat until your arrival back home.
5 Select the day and use arrows to select the time and temperature for Return. This is the time and temperature that you will choose for returning home from work and may want the heat on to warm the house for your arrival.
6 Select the day and use arrows to select the time and temperature for Sleep. Set the time you normally go to bed. The thermostat will automatically adjust itself to your selected temperature at that time.
Thanks

Ice on the back wall; temperature went from 58 degrees to 34 degrees; had to shut off regrigerator

hi,
Wine cabinets work off of cycle defrost, so in order to built frost your temperature sensors are not working properly. I would look for corrosion on or in connections to be the fault or problem. Sensors report information to control unit and thats there only job. Its the control unit that dictates function. Look for corrosion to be the problem, clean connection and seal with RTV when connection a corrected.
Good Luck

The problem may be that you don't have the temperature set low enough and the unit reaches the set temperature quickly and then only the fan runs. Try lowering the set temperature.

My Transtherm Castle wine cabinet has accumulated ice in the lower chilling compartment, I need to know what is involved in thawing/defrosting the cabinet.

Check the thermostat setting; it may be set too high. If lowering the setting does not solve the problem, replace the thermostat.
P.S. The thermostat is what controls the temperature.

COOLER TEMP CONTROL SEEMS NOT TO BE WORKING.  TEMP GOES DOWN TO 42 AND STAYS THERE.

thats because 42 degrees is the optimum temperature for wine to be at. unlike other beverages wine coolers only go to 42 degrees.
