Freezer wont go below 30 fridge at 40 to 45

2 weeks ago the freezer stopped freezing, both  fans working, i cleaned the coins in the rear, removed the freezer back panel ( there is ice only on 1 coil from the bottom center traveling to the right up till the end where it reaches some device ) I dont know if this is the supply of return however it is not the line with the thermostat attached.  Please help. only a few years old.

Hi ttmo

Can you give more info on the make and model of this freezer and also the type of gas it uses....

If I can take a wild swing at it .... i would think that your freezer has one of a few problems...

1- the gas in your unit might be to little and thus the freezing up of the coils....
2- you might have some impurity's(particle's) in your system and these are partly blocking up your expansion valve.. (The item unknown to you ) also resulting in ice on coils..
3- the evaporator fins(warm side) on the freezer might be blocked thus restricting airflow and the gas can then not cool effectively...

Please do give more info for a more accurate assessment.. include photo's of back of unit if possible..

    Hi ttmo

unfortunately you cannot change the expansion valve yourself....

Impurity's can be dampness or very small particles in the gas.. this can enter the system through filters or dryers or even if your compressor was overworked for a while it will break down the oil inside to harmful particle's... and there is more reasons...

Another possibility could be that your thermostat might be set to low or might even have become faulty... in which case your freezer will run without stop... and your pipes will also ice up after a while.... then you would only need to replace that part... witch I may add is not to expensive...

If you look at this site.
You can just add your zip code and inquire there for your freezer's thermostat.. your zip code will direct you to your nearest dealer....

I do hope this helps you... more than this I can not tell you without being there.. :) You might have to call in professional help as there is very little else you can repair on a freezer by yourself..

My magic chef rb193p fridge wont stop running. I replaced the fan motor 4 months ago. The top of the fridge compartment is freezing. Is the defrost timer bad?

I had the same problem. When the evaporator heater stops working, frost will build up until there is no air flow to the refrigerator. This will cause the refrigerator to keep running. Remove everything from the freezer and remove the pan at the bottom and see if there is a frost buildup. .... Bruce

I have a 30 year old fridgidere top freezer refridgerator and the fan in the freezer keeps stopping first it sounds like it is hitting something then it stops and if I turn off the fridge for a day and...

This is a pure case of the AUTO DEFROST timer having a fault or the THERMOSTAT being weak.
The fan is hitting onthe frost that is building up after a couple of days. When you shut the fridge all frost goes off to clear the fan , the frost then build up gradually as the timer does not activate the auto defrost or the thermostat is cutting off the fridge as it runs on.
So get these two parts checked and changed. Inthe first place ccheck the timerr, normally at the rear bottom.

Freezer freezes, fridge below will not cool

if your freezer is still freezing fine, except for perhaps a slight softening of ice cream. this is a good sign. the second fan you are looking for is located behind the back wall of the freezer, emptying the freezer will gain you access to the screws to remove he panel. you should be able to hear the fan blowing when the freezer door is opened.if indeed the fan is blowing you may have frost building up on the rear panel, this would indicate a defrost problem( unit not self defrosting) and so much frost has built up that the air flow has been restricted to the refrig compartment

FFA60 Hotpoint fridge/freezer Red warning light

if i read the english right, the compressor runs but the freezer fan only runs for a short time. no fan then no cooling. there is a fan stat so that the fan only runs when the evap is down to temp. this may be faulty. also on some hotpoint, the fan switches off when door opened. check door switch operating ok. this may also explain problem with fridge lamp
