Question about Maytag Washing Machines

I have a maytag performa PAV2360AWW. It makes a screech on spin

I have a maytag performa PAV2360AWW. It makes a loud screeching noise in the spin cycle. When I shut the washer off, the tub stops immediately. I have turned the washer on its back, and the pully turns fine in both directions but I hear a grinding sound. What can I do? the washer is too old to spend too much money on it. I am a plumber by trade, can I fix it myself or do I need a technician. I have a service manual.

If the noise is a squealing or grinding sound, you are likely looking at a bad seal and bearing.
If the noise is a knocking sound, it's more likely a suspension or out of balance condition.
check out the transmission pulley and transmission.also check the agitator shaft. Sounds like you have two problems.....one, something is restricting the flow of water.....Check the pump closely...The squealing could be coming from the pump also. Flip the machine back up against the wall and then look underneath. You will see the pump pulley. Take off the blet and turn the pulley slowly.....Is it make noise. lets make sure there isnt somthing under the agit ,, remove the dispenser off the top and take the screw loose inside the agit and pull it up off the shaft

The inside of the agitator--where the transmission shaft attaches--can become worn, and strip out the spline that allows the agitator to properly grip the shaft. Then the transmission shaft rotates back and forth as it should, but the agitator doesn't move properly. If this happens, you may need to replace the agitator and/or the transmission spline. The transmission could have either of these problems: Older washers have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may not agitate properly or at all. The transmission may have a worn or broken gear, or some other internal problem. If you suspect a transmission problem, you may have to call a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

That is the brake. Your clutch maybe wearing out. Or the belt maybe slipping because the rollers for the motor maybe wearing out.
